Steering

Is there a kit which can reduce the turns lock to lock for the standard TT MKIV??

It would probably require an uprated power steering pump but I think it would be very handy.

I'm often going to tight corners quite fast, in that situation you don't want to be feeding the steering wheel through your hands. Its unsafe and its not fast enough.

I think somewhere between 2 and 2.5 turns lock to lock would be adequate.

Also can you increase the maximum lock angle?? On 235 front tires with standar springs there must be some room to play with.....

Hi Alex.

The gearing will be set in the steering rack. The pump only provides assistance but you are right it would probably have to be uprated as steering effort would go up. Doubtless someone like Ash or Paul could knock up some kind of sun and planet gearbox that fixed between the steering wheel and the shaft with their eyes shut. I would be surprised if anything was available commercially.

When the PAS pump failed on my BMW I had it disconnected as a short term fix until I could find a replacement. I found out then that the PAS version had a higher geared rack (less turns lock to lock) than the non-PAS version. It felt great at speed, but for parking - Jesus! Talks about needing arms like Arnie!!! :-)

Bog off! I've given up on the hands-dirty bit, uless I absolutely have to save money (£400 disc swap at Peugeot dealer, me £120).

I'm sticking to flux fumes and the odd bit of body work. The rest is down to Powerstation.

New rack, my boy; I'm afraid. Loads of money. Talk to Powerstation, they specialise in custom rack solutions on the Scooby and they're supposed to be the dog's Bs.
