View Full Version : Fan replacement?

Is there any reasons for not replacing the standard, viscous coupling fan on my SZ with a couple of Spal pusher fans? In the past (on other motors) it has been a good way of removing some of the work done by the engine and therefore releasing a little more power - I assume this would be the case in the Supra too?

Any advice/opinions gratefully accepted:)

I use twin 'pull ' electric fans (have been for more than 5 years) works great with a T61 and have done numerous track days with no probs. However, I do have a fully ducted rad and removed the aircon after fitting the fmic.
Upside is the removal of parrasitic drag (the fans only kick in at low speed or stationary) and creates a huge amount of space in the engine bay.
Gonna get flamed here coz everyone hates these!

No electric fan setup is as good as the stock viscous unit...but it's your choice.

I am putting on the AAP motorsports twin electric fan system
This bolts on to OEM, Fluidyne, PWR, Koyo.etc

These have 2 x Zirgo fans producing 3,350 to 3,400 CFM (no thermostat) and for comparison the stock viscous fan flows 3,300 CFM approx and
Flex-A-Lite fans flow 1,200 CFM.

Engine bay tidy and coupled with a PWR or Fluidyne looks bling and releases a tad

Mind you I am also keeping and uprating my SMIC - so I dont need to worry about the restrictions of an FMIC - also engine is just BPU so no requirement for serious cooling

Why no thermostat? If they are running continuasely, they will rob power (via the alt). Fans aren't needed at higher speed (especially with aftermarket front ends ducted for forced air cooling)

You are prob quite right (blurb just points out that one is not required)...i will more than likely get it linked up when fitted...

Then again with time pressures dont even know when I'll get around to fitting any of it at mo... ;)
