Painting J-Spec calipers

So J-spec callipers might be useless compared to UK spec ones but at least with some paint they can look a bit better! :)

I have seen various threads but never a definitive guide to painting J-spec callipers. Does anyone have a step by step guide to prepping and painting callipers for the mechanically impaired? :search:

Yes I did mine last year and I'm a total numpty when it comes to anything technical.

Take your wheels off and do them one at a time.

Use a wire brush to get rid of all the brake dust crap on your calipers etc.

I used Hammerite smooth, apply evenly and thinly.

Takes about 20-30mins per caliper so by the time you get back to the start it'll be ready for its second coat.

Just remember, evenly and thinly otherwise it will run.

Sorry Rob, no pics.

When I done mine I jacked one end of the car, supported on axel stands.

Take off wheels, there are two bolts holding the caliper on, undo these and carefully remove the pads, shims, anti rattle springs etc noting which way round they go.

Hang the caliper from the suspension with a piece of wire to take the strain off the brake line.

Clean caliper taking care not to damage rubber seal around piston,

paint slowly with thin coats to avoid runs.

When dry reassemble in reverse order.

Check out the Brake system.zip which has expoloded views of the calipers.
