Tips for the nuerburgring

Depends how hard you're gonna hit it i think - check / change coolant and brake fluids, check state of rads and brake pads etc. Probably take spare discs and pads incase you knacker yours, i'd probably wanna fit gauges to keep an eye on temps etc. Make sure your suspension isn't fooked either incase anything gives way under high speed cornering.

 

Probably cover the seats in plastic too in case you go into a corner to hard and shit your pants :D

New PAS fuild is wise as it will reach temps on the ring it will never do anywhere else. If it fails you loose your steering. I know this from experience.

upgrade your brake lines, dont use silicone fluid, stick with good quality 5.1.

Very few pads are any good on here, but Endless CCX proved themselves for me.

Make an appointment with TTE Technics motorsport in Zermullen (2 miles form ring) and have you cars geometry reset to siut the ring, you will be delighted and its not expensive either.

Use a hard sidewall/soft compound tyre (ring isnt hard on tyre wear like small tracks) e.g. bridgestone re050 or Pilot sport 2 or any R rated compound (trackday) grade.

Follow Germans with the ring sticker on the back of their cars around it, its the best way to learn. You'll need 5 laps before trying to get quick.

Pass on the left only, keep your dip lights on, and blow your horn when passing bikers as most think nothing could be as quick and dont use their mirrors. Suckers.

See if you can get there early in the 2nd morning to get some queit laps in. The traffic on it can get heavy.

Very hard suspension or very low ride height will bite you on the ring.

Look for the turn in markers, they are on some corners.

On downhill turn in's steer very progressively or else get ready for the drift of your life!.

Check your mirrors often, people seem to come from nowhere!.

Thats no use at all. As soon as you get on the track and start to drive it feels totally different to the game and then you start to panic.. plus you get overtaken too, and that doesnt happen in the game :D

 

Other than that, as Cheif says, general maintenance, may pay to get a service before you go to ensure your car is in a good condition and make sure your tyres are half decent, wear out there isnt bad but its a pita if they go :)

All the above is good advice when driving the 'ring.

Other pointers are... learn the sequence of corners from the GT4 game but don't use the pace of the game as a real life pace.

If you're not used to track driving then start off slow and gradually build up speed.

Pay attention to the track-side marshals.... do you know your flag colours?

If you are unsure how your Supra reacts at high speed (especially on corner entry), try not to brake too hard too quickly.

As with all high speed driving. .. its about being smooth with all the controls.

 

If you're going on the same date (and same route) as the rest of us on the 30th... then get your name down on the nurburgring trip thread in the events section ;-)
