View Full Version : Possible track day, Interested?
Hi there, I'm pretty new to the events lark and have yet to meet you all but thought some of you might be interested in this if i could sort it out.
On the 22nd and 23rd of april RAF Marham is opening up its airfield for a "track day' kind of affair to raise funds for the various station charities. This has been done once before, last october, and I took my 300ZX round it was a good laugh and great value. It is meant to be for service personel but as its for charity i would be suprised if they turned away civilians as long as it was sorted in advance.
Last time the track was about 4 miles long and incorperated the main runway which is just over 1.5 miles long. There was a couple of fast corners and a few slow shicanes. There was also a speed trap at the end of the runway but this has yet to be confirmed for this year.
The cost is 30quid for the saturday which will have at least 3 x 20 minute sessions and 60 quid for the sunday 6x20 minute sessions.
Anyway, i'll be taking my soop round this time and thought some of you might wanna do the same. I'm gonna need to know some rough numbers asap so i can try and sort it, and nearer the time i'll need names and addresses for security clearance purposes.
so...

Any noise restrictions ???
This place normally has up to 30 Tornado jets taking off each day so noise will not be a problem!!
Its located in west norfolk near Kings Lynn.

Surface is good. probably 95% tarmac and a little concrete but all in exellent condition. Main runway is as smooth as a babies bottom! No one had a bad word to say about it last year.

As long as my car has had the injectors fitted and i have not sold her.
Speed trap update....
As i said earlier last year there was a speed trap at the end of the main runway apparrently it was supplied by the farrari owners club and they're not attending this time so we havent got that one! Organisers are trying to locate another.... so i will let you know.

yep count me in.

I'm actually a bit concerned about this. Will there be groups of cars hammering along the straight at full chat? If so, this sounds just plain dangerous to me.
Some of the cars of members on here can get into the 120's in a quarter mile from a standstill. If they were to enter the runway off a corner at, say 40mph, they'll be way over 160 before they start slowing down.
Now I'm all for getting this sort of experience, but if there's other cars on the straight at the same time, things can happen extremely quickly, expecially if things go wrong. (Think of what a tyre burst could do in a group of cars doing over 150)
Perhaps McGoo could confirm the format of how this will be run? After all, even at TSC and TOTB, they only ever allow one car at a time to perform a high-speed run on the runway. The next car isn't normally released until the one in front has been confirmed as having left the track.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

Hi mate, I cant say exactly how things are going to run as i'm not the organiser but last time is was down to ourselves to space out sensibly and the main runway is between 75 to 100 meters wide so plenty of room. Everyone overtakes on the left so there is no confusion. Depending on how many cars attend depends on how spread out we are ( 4 miles is a long track).

this place seem a lot larger than when we went Bovington last year. After a slightly manic start it was very well organsied and very safe.
Sorry guys slight error, Runway is 60 meters wide found out today. Still plenty of room though.
Pm'd all on the list,
Any other takers??

Think your ment to, but last time alot af people(me included) payed on the day. Had to be by cheque though. But you do need to register as attending before the day or you won't get on.

cheers dude, I'll pm you as soon as get their details:)
Hi, This is the latest update recieved today. note price increase for sat. because of an extra session.
"RAF Marham will again stage a track day for motorbike and car owners on the airfield on the afternoon of Saturday 22 Apr 06 and all day on Sunday 23 Apr 06. All funds raised will be in aid of RAF Marham Stn Appeals and Charities. The cost for participants will be £40 for the Saturday and £60 for the Sunday with, depending on the number of entries, a minimum of four and six 20-minute sessions on the Saturday and Sunday respectively. The course will be laid out using the main runway and southern taxiway, totalling 4 miles in length, but with some variations last year’s layout to add to the challenge."
Are there any more takers for this? Would like to meet a few more of you guys and would be nice to see a few more soops buzzin round the track.
There can,t be many opportunities to 'legally' do top speed with nothing but grass around you!!!!
What day is everyone planning on going?
Can you add me in?
Yes i can will pm you shortly.
so far got 4 coming sat , 2 sunday and a couple to let me know tomorrow.

I will register you as a driver, as long as you come in the same car you can get on camp and if you don't feel that ya cars ready don't pay and just watch. (but i didn't tell ya that!)
