Warning Lights

On my way to town one of the service lights lite up it was the oil can one with the bumpy line under it...

Is this the engine oil, if so what sort of Oil should I use ?

Red oil can? or orange oil can?

Red = oil pressure

Top it up with the same oil that was used at your last oil change.

That would be never only got car 6 months or so and was just serviced when got it and later after 3 months mechanic topped it up I forgot what he recommended...

So how many miles has the oil that's in there done, roughly?

It really depends on what the last mechanic put in it, give him a ring in the morning and ask him.

He cant remember he is my bro in law miles since i got it mmmm think 65k when i got it 69k now

4000 miles and its lost enough oil to put the light on? Something strange going on there then. If it was me I'd give it a full oil/filter change now and try and work out where all the old oil went.

Edit to add, work out were the oil went FIRST then do the oil change, no point throwing good money away.

He didnt fill it at the time because like me he was unsure of the recommended type, Im going with fully syn, 5-40W of mobil1 cos i cant get an answer from anyoneeeeeeee

Sounds like your not really sure how many miles the oil has done. You know your turbos rely on good clean oil, right?

5w-40 or 10w-40. Either will be fine. Fully Synth is better. Any oil is better than not enough though. Change it regularly too. I do mine every 5000, some folks do it every 3000 but that's overkill in my opinion.

Lets say it had a fully change 5k miles ago, then top up by mechanic and I was to find out from here what type is bes,t buy some and top it up now the top up lets say 1L was done 2 months ago, and I forgot about filling it till the light today....

Sorry to do a Lazarus on this thread but the same thing happened to me tonight.

Orange oil light came on. Drove to Halfords and waited around for a bit. Checked oil and it was very low. Got some more and topped up.

Oil change was almost 5000 miles ago and I'm actually booked in next week.

Could it be that 5W40 is too thin for the turbo seal things. I note that Toyota recommend 10W40 FS. Will go for that next time I think.

10W30 you should put in it, or 10w40.. nothing thinner. i put some Magnatec 5w30 in mine, not nice

Has anyone seen SLX 0w30??? like water!
