I've ordered some new alloys "work"from the states and should get them in about a week. The rears are 10s,so which tyres should I put on,(outright grip),also what size would be the best fit...not worried about hard ride.

Cheers!
Any advice appreciated!

I'm running 18's from a Lexus GS300 sport. The tyre sizes are 245/40/18 and 275/35/18.

For a ~400hp car I would say no wider than 275 at the rear with 245 at the front....ie Matt has it spot on.

Bigger is not always better, too much rolling resistance will hurt your MPG and high speed cruising ability. You'll also get lots of wind and road noise.

I would run about 36psi in the front and 34psi in the rear.

I've got 265 35 18's on the front, and 285 30 18's at the back... I run them all on 32psi...... You don't really get a lot of raod noise but they like to tram line a lot on the motorways.

The main problem is the price of tyres... They cost a fortune.. The worst tyres i had we're continetals... They lasted about 3 months on the rears... Changed over to S02's and they've been all right.. The first year i had my car i must of done about 4 sets of tyres.. Either through blowouts or just wear... Nightmare !

Cheers guys...I think I'll go for 275/35 on the back and 245/35 on the front. But what are the best tyres?

You can't beat the Bridgstone S02's or S03's.. They have amazing grip and last a long time as well... Continental's are crap.. Don't last long at all.. And the pirelli's are ok...

My own opinion anyway....

Craig.

Try this site for prices..They are very cheap... and gives you the reviews on the tyres.. www.mytyres.co.uk

U want 245/40's on the front, the aspect ratio's are critical and will be different at the front from the back.

Pirelli Pzero-C's
Bridgestone S0-3's
Goodyear GDS-3 F1's
Michelin Pilot Sports
Dunlop SP9000's

These are all good tyres. There is a tyre test in the latest Autocar mag...the Pzero-C's came out on top, I believe.

SO..Alex you think I should keep the sidewall profile the same yeah?
245/40's and 275/40's!?
I've already got Bridgestone S0-3's,my brother has got Toyo T1-S on his 300zx,he says they are real good?
Any feedback on these tyres?,also Alex Pirelli's good wet weather grip?

There's a mission for you lot!:p

Greatly appreciated!:)

No...Different aspect ratio's as the tyres are different sizes at the fron and the back but on the same diameter rim.

245/40 front
275/35 rear
on an 18" wheel.

Pirellis do everything well....AFAIK. Though hammer them and they won't last longer than 6,000miles.

On the other hand the Dunlops seem to just go on and on....if budget isn't an issue I'd go for the pirelli's. if it is and you want more life out of the tyre then the Dunlops (which I do run) would be my choice. Its all a balance of initial cost, outright ability and life expectancy.

Mo, just to clear a possible point of confusion that I had.
The aspect ration is a Percentage of the Width of the tyre.
so a 245/40/18 is NOT the same sidewall height as a 275/40/18.

Yes I understand that 245/40 meaning the length of sidewall is 40% of 245.(at least I think)

So I think the pirellis sound good...245/40 and 275/35,having different sidewall lengths dosen't affect anything does it?

Nice one!
