hi guys,
ok the car is a standard as, so what mods can be done to make it 'better'?
air filter/induction? which is the best?
exhaust system?
what else can be done? and where is the best 'cheapest' place to get them?

and i know that a 'turbo' would be a good start, but in about a years time im doing this (insurance!). a nice big single turbo!

thanks

ooo, keep us informed if you go with the NA-T, don't think anyone's done one over here before? I'd recommend doing any prior mods with an eye on future developments then - filter / inductions kits aren't supposed to be of much benefit, if any, on the NA, but you'll need it done anyway if you're going turbo. Big bore exhaust and decat (see Chris Wilson) seem the obvious start, maybe upgrade to UK spec brakes if you haven't already and a suspension upgrade. The only real way to get a good deal more power from an NA is nitrous, but you wouldn't want to go that route if your going with a big single anyway. I'm no expert though, someone else can probably give you more informed advice.

I take it the speed delimter has been removed? :D Only kidding.

Not much more to add to lust's post, except to say that a big exhaust on an NA is supposed to sound wonderful, by all accounts.

Yeah I've got one of the green HKS mushrooms, can't tell you how much it was since I found it growing in a marshy field :looney:

(actually twas on it when I bought it - around £150-200 I'd fathom)

My car is totally bog-stock (apart from the wheels and my rather brilliant rear lights, but we won't go into that :D ). I don't even have it delimited yet...

I think the case against HKS filters has been prooved....ask CW about the Skyline he used to have which had them fitted.

Internal wear was very high.

Induction kit ( are there any real benefits unless its a big turbo car ) ? Ive had the HKS induction kit and dont think its worth £150's, you get a filter some hose connectors, hose clips and a rough cast piece of pipe
I'd say just put an exhaust on it, maybe 1 of those ASCAR custom jobs for about £400.
Then get saving buy a tt :)

If your a power junkie save any disposable and buy a uk TT, ignor the mileage and enjoy the power & cheap insurance (< an SZ) they can be found at probably less than you paid for your SZ and you can save your money you were going to spend on the single turbo for any repairs etc. Just my two pennith worth

An "induction kit" in my opinion, will probably cost power, and certainly won't gain any. The only easy mod is to remove the cats with my cat pipe kit. Send me your direct e-mail address to:

chris@formula3.freeserve.co.uk and I'll e-mail you back with full details. Several N/A owners have had this mod and they all seem in agreement it makes a worthwhile boost in power. You will never get huge gains without spending mega money though.

If you're going to mod any engine with a view to real power increase, make sure the engine is in good condition to start with. No point adding a turbo if the rings are shot for example.

Over the coming month I am doing the following mods to my car.

Apexi Induction Kit (when it arrives)
CW Decat

Will report back on the differences it makes to the car.
