View Full Version : SZ v SZ-R
Does anyone know what the main differences are between these two models apart from the foldy wing mirrors?
I think all SZ-Rs have VVTi engines, but I may be wrong.
Again, just to make matters confusing, I think there was two different SZ-Rs. An older one with a 5 or 6 speed manual. And a newer one with 6speed only.
If VVTI was present I would imagine it was in the newer version.
Can anyone confirm this?

Dominic, (Supra Pilot) has an SZ-R, so he's probably the best person to ask.
I know his isn't a VVTi. He has the bigger brakes all round and 17" rims... Can't remember any more specifics. :(

I've got an SZ and I've got bigger brakes, 17"s and foldy in wingmirrors, so I think they were all options for both.
SZ-R seems to have 20-25 more BHP, a bit more lightening and a closer ratio gearbox from what I can make out. By the way, how can you tell just by looking that it's an SZ-R? Is it badged?

I'm probably completely wrong but I thought the SZ-R and RZ-S were the models that came after the facelift. :conf:

The 'ONLY', well best and quickest way to know the difference is by the chassis plate...
Lots and lots of dealers here and even in Japland quote 'SZr' when selling an N/A mkiv, but 95% were not.
Believe me I looked around, as I specifically wanted this spec...
A few weeks ago I went to a dealer that advertised(a/Trader) that they have 3 SZr's, went to see for myself and NONE was actually an SZr.
EFC post or shoot me the whole chassis plate and I'll confirm this.

How did you guess........:D
Your code sounds about right there m8,,,
Did you call CW about them pipes yet?
And are you going for or do you have a good aftermarket exhaust system to compliment the de/catt?
Lust, what pipes have you got on yours m8?
Dom
Yes - have spoken to Chris about the decat.
Got a 5Zigen exhaust on it at the mo, although it was on the car when I got it. It should be ok for now, but will probably put a HKS Hiper or Superdragger or Apexi N1, when I have a bit of spare cash.

I've got CW decat pipes and an unidentified Jap 'bullet' zaust - about the same size as a Nur Spec. Thinking of switching to a custom built Ascar jobby (mine's dented, tarnished, and horrendously loud!) - anybody used them yet?
