View Full Version : Is the NA auto box the same as a TT??
Anyone know if the NA autobox is the same as the TT's??
Should be able to tell from the parts CD for sure.
As a guess I would say they are different. I think the NA's box operates a different shift strategy to the TT's, as well as having (possibly) different ratios.
The reason for asking is that a friend is thinking of buying a NA, with an auto box. I was telling him that the TT's auto is one of the best available, if far inferior to a 6 speed manual, & I wanted to know how the NA auto compared.
If they are different I would think it was only in ratios and strategy, unless they tried to save a few yen by putting less strong gears in the NA box. The actual operation seems the same between the two, with the possible exception of how and when the NA box kicks down - i.e. now always when you want it to, which can be a bit annoying in a car which doesn't do much below 4000RPM :(
PN for an 05/1993 to 05/1996 SZ: 35000-1B240
PN for an 05/1993 to 05/1996 GZ, RZ or RZS: 35000-1B310
So they must be different somehow.
For information, the post 05/1996 numbers are different again.
The NA auto is not as strong as the TT box, longer ratios (odd). Not sure about shift diferences, but a very good box.
