oil mixed with water (for Pete Betts)

Pete created a post earlier today about losing a fair bit of oil and a fair bit of water from his car, but the BBS seems to have lost his post somehow. So Im logging this on behalf of Pete.

The oild and water mix seemed to be at the bottom of the engine and had landed on the alternator and a few other belts and sprayed itself round the engine bay.

Does anybody have any thoughts on what it could be?

Pete didn't actually say whether it was engine or gearbox oil. I sent a post to try and clarify that issue as the water radiator on the auto contains a gearbox oil-cooler at the bottom. And, to the best of my knowledge, Pete's car is an auto.

So, as he was talking about oil and water it could be oil from either.

Yours,

J

He could have the same problem I had after a 6 hour session across Europe a few weeks ago.

On arriving in The Netherlands at the end of a long fairly quick drive, I noticed oil vapors coming from under the bonnet. Checked the levels and they were all OK and the oil on the dipstick was clear. So not a lot of oil whatever.

On my return and a slightly more sedate (cough!) run back, I whizzed up to Powerstation who discovered that every single cam-cover screw was finger tight, or less.

"Enemy action?" I asked, "Nope, rubber gasket with no shake-proof washers" the response.

They didn't seem worried and didn't think I should fit shake-proof washers if Mr. Toyota didn't think it necessary.

Worth checking, it's a really cheap fix if it is that; it's called tightening up the screws.
