is it best to hybridise uk or jap turbos, or doesnt it matter?
doesn't really matter. What ever you have as stock wil be a good base.
is the uk wastegate larger as standard?
AFAIK it's the same size as the J spec. It's really not worth changing either way.
Hmmm I was under the impression that the UK turbo's had different wastegates and this is why they don't suffer boost creep like the j-specs - when de-catted.
Also don't the UK's require a UK manifold.
I know the manifold is different that's why I said it wasn't worth the bother. Still not sure about the WG though. I'll check, although I would always recommend that a bigger wastegate is machined in no matter.

I thought boost creep was prevented by the EGR system, hence the need for boost controllers to raise boost on UK specs. For Jap 1.5 bar is for free.
how much can the wastegate be enlarged by? would this also include fitting a new valve (correct term??) on the wastegate?
excuse my ignorance, im not very familiar with the stock turbos, but would it be possible (or worthwhile) fitting an external wastegate if u had a custom exhaust manifold made?
