I met up with Loks (Dave) the other week, as he was saying he was getting quite a bit of flex on the brake master cylinder after fitting the larger spec brakes front and rear. Dave's was visibly flexing quite a bit, mine less so.

I fitted a Cusco Brake Master Cylinder Brace on mine today to see if it reduced the flexing. I wasn't really expecting much, but I am really quite impressed with the difference it has made on my car.

I did some brake testing on a quiet road tonight, braking from various speeds, under normal braking you don't really feel any difference, it is only on medium to heavy braking that you feel the extra stopping power. It has firmed the pedal up and I would estimate it takes 15-20% less effort to get the ABS to kick in now when braking hard.

I'd suggest checking how much your master cylinder flexes when braking whilst stationary, mine only moved a little but the brace made a noticable improvement. If yours is like Dave's and is flexing quite a bit, I would definitely recommend either fitting one of these, or alternatively one of the Carbing Strut Braces (which incorporates a built in brake stop) to maximise your braking.

Here are a few pics.

Hi Nic, just looking at the pictures, does the bracket for the brace run under the front strut brace ? Doesn't this upset the seating of the strut brace ?

Yes it does, I tried it on top to start with, but it effected the fit of the lowest of the bracket points to the car. The bracket that goes under the strut brace is a thinner section (3-4mm) so the brace still seats fine and actually helps to hold the bracket a bit more firmly.

will it fit with cruise control system?

Do you still stock the strut brace with a built in brake stopped ... I can't remember the brand ? If so, what's the price, can I add one for a 98 VVTi to my order for the rear TRD spoiler ? Ta.

It's the Carbing front strut brace that has the master cylinder brace incorporated. There is choice of either a pinted (white) steel version or polished Aluminium version. I would need to order the brace, which would take a few weeks, so let me know ASAP if you want one. Here are the prices.

CARBING Front Strut Brace (steel) = £135 including postage
CARBING Front Strut Brace (Aluminium) = £168 including postage

I have seen these in the flesh and must say are probably the best quality Braces. The rear ones have two additional mounting points for further support/stability - I don't think any other rear braces have this feature?

Edit: Thanks for the price Nic, I'll think about this
