Guys,

I'm fitting some polished cam covers tomorrow. I have bought new gaskets and breather pipes.

Is there anything i need to be aware of before doing this?

Do any of the bolts have to be done up to a certain torque setting when putting back?

Any advice would be much appreciated?

Christian

Really easy mate, no need to worry about it. Would have popped over tomorrow but just taken some overtime. Are you about Friday??

i'm frightened of breaking a perfectly working car, plus i have no torque wrench to check the bolts when i tighten them! :(

James, unfortunately i have to work friday, taken tomorrow off as it is supposed to be a bit sunny, so wanted to do this and all the hoses.

Really appreciate your offer though

It is easier than you think. I think i had trouble with 2 bolts hidden away that were a little hard to undo/do up, but once out the way it was job done. Go outside when you get a minute and take the spark plug cover off and take a look at the postion of the bolts (8 i think). Then you'll see the troublesome ones. I think if you ran into big problems and took several breaks it would take 3 hours max.

top tip

remove the studs front and aft comlete with the nuts you will need a very small socket 8mm i think this will allow you to get alot of sidewards movement making the whole job alot easier

Do you actually need a torque wrench for any of the bolts, or is it just do up as tight as poss?

Well that's what i did and nothing seems to have gone wrong since i did it 6/7 months ago :D

you will notice when youremove them there not that tight just make sure it dont leak afterwards

bottom line if you are half decent on the tools you should be ale to do this job if you are not dont fcuk about and fcuk it up take it to someone who knows what they are doing
