I know this is going to be a stupid question to most if not all of you, but wtf does the number refer to? Is it the size in mm of the diameter of the turbo or something? Is it a standard measurement that is used across all makes?

I know bigger number = bigger turbo (and usually more lag) but what exactly does it mean?

Also, if it is possible to compare, what 'T number's are the stock turbos?

What are the common 'T' turbos used and what sort of application does each have?

TIA people :)

No its tricky.

PTE use the inducer ( front of the compressor wheel) so a T61 have a 61mm inducer and so on.

Most other use the exducer ( rear of the compressor wheel) so a T78 has an inducer nearer to a T66 from PTE.

Then that is only half the story, next you get onto exhaust trims and AR's...............;)

HKS are a law unto themselves( pays them to use odd #). The T51R is a biggy. Its very similar to a Garrett GT42R, so probably around a 76mm inducer.

HKS are just wierd....

No idea what the 51 refers to but yeah they are large turbo's.

There are 4 T51R's

T51R KAI

T51R KAI BB

T51R SPL

T51R SPL BB

The KAI version is slightly smaller and probably is equivilent to a Greddy T88-34D.

The SPL version is the daddy and is probably equivilent to the GReddy T88H-38D

(That's in power production terms..not necessarily actualy compressor and turbine size.)
