I imported my car and have been driving it for 8weeks,

i have aftermarket mirrors and a eburni wing on the rear which cuts the view, i dont want to ditch the wing. i cant see really whats behind, especily at night time.

im considering getting a rear view camera and screen to run in the tailgate boot keyhole.

im looking at getting this package: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Lilliput-4-5-TFT-Rearview-Mirror-Car-Monitor-w-Camera_W0QQitemZ5845989475QQcategoryZ14946QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

has anyone done this, what are your thoughts.

yeh had a word with him, thanks.

his camera is a bit different, but he says its good quality,

this camera in the above package is keyhole size, i want to remove the keyhole in the rear light, as i can still access the boot from inside the car.

it only like £107 delivered to your door,

I'd be very careful about the quality of the product, the seller is from HK and all the products he sells are cheap China branded crap. If the quality is poor, or the thing packs in, then you'll be very lucky if you get any exchange or refund, knowing how the Chinese businesses operate here.

Personally I would look at a reputable branded alternative.

my brother has one of these in his car,.( diff brand i think tho :( )

however its a standard feature in his car,

it works realy, realy well and seems very reliable - the image received is mint and you can park reliably and its lots of fun when he opens his boot - you can pull faces & gurn etc into the camera :)

like?

No idea, not something I have looked into.

cant find many cameras that aint from china/japan

What I meant is that I would steer clear of this type of Chinese 'branded' product, not products that are 'made in China' for Western or Japanese companies. There is a very big difference in quality between the 2.

With these sort of electronic products, you pay cheap, you usually get cheap.

Anyone used them before?

Once again, there shit I have ("had" would suit better) this EXACT camera and i stuck it in the bin biggest waste of time.

WHY?

none of em are sealed properly and like headlights once they open they start to fog up !! plus they are cheap parts hence poor quality.

I was having a look at one of these rear view camera/mirror kits at my audio suppliers today. The picture quality was very good, but the price was quite a bit more than the one on ebay, would be circa £300 with postage. I'll keep looking around and see if I can find any other models available.

the first camera (link) is the same spec as my cameras, cannot take photo at mo but will asap, but rest assured myself and my friends were amazed at the quality. cannot be sure about these but look the same and same spec apart from no audio.

mine is not waterproof but where i have put it is dry from back and sealed with a cap at front so no issues as yet, maybe the waterproof ones are not as good quality because of the protection over them (don't know)

or they have both these cameras at

http://www.flyonthewall.uk.com/

also some small lcd monitors

one problem i had with monitors was visibility, bought a liliput originally but was very bad for glare, so went for gain. supposedly the best. much clearer.

so be aware it is not just the quality of the camera that counts.

i don't know if any of this helps but if your not going down the pc route i have no experience with any other systems in that price range

allthough you may like to try something like this

or this

good look and keep us informed,

if you do decide to go for pc let me know, but you are looking minimum £700 for anything descent

btw.

take a look at this site

hope this helps you out and doesn't blow your head with decisions

  • 2 weeks later...

My ICE supplier has sourced a small rear view camera, which can be connected to a DVD player or screen. I've tested (not in a car) and the quality seems good.

Si, if you have a screen in your car and want to test it, I will supply at a very good price. Give me a shout if interested.
