I've started rebuilding the baby, put the new head on last night, resting nicely on the new gasket...

only one prob. The ARP washers are SMALLER than th original bolt washers, and only the front two fit... the rest of the stud holes for washers are TOO SMALL!!

Apart from this the head is perfect as a replacement for the old one (94 jspec).

Did Toyota make the size of the head bolt holes smaller or something on later heads (this could be one)?

All I know is the front two fit fine, but the rest are a touch too big for the holes and so for now I can't torque the head down! I may have to try and contact ARP for slightly smaller washers/bolts :s

Any ideas fellas?

washers and studs dont fit in head when you try to put them in together, cure!!
Put washers in head and lower it on,i use a small amount of vasaline to stop them moving when lowering the head or put front two studs in and put the studs into the block while the washers are on the vasaline if that makes sence.
The washers do fit they just dont go down the stud if the head is down.
Im sure some machanic on here will help with some more ideas.

On the button there DJA. You could also remove the studs bang the head in place and then carefully with long nose pliers put the washers in place. They do fit they just need to get past the appertures first and they will then pop into their home. Then wind the studs in and carry on as normal.

Either way will work.
