Calculating MPG ?

how is it done, couldnt see a formula in the search threads anywhere ?

 

never, ever done it before u see but now i am curious

 

with the dial 1 or 2mm below the very last white line i always put £20 in a time and get 90 miles purely thru town driving nothing else.

 

how do i convert it to mpg anyone. thanks.:help:

The slightly silly way....I used to put 45.46 Litres (10 Gals) in the tank each time I fueled up, zeroed the trip meter then ran the car till the fuel light came on, the resulting distance was then divided by ten to get MPG....theres a couple of very good reasons why this is a daft thing to do...

 

The better way IMO is to fill the tank to the brim,zero the trip meter then run the car for about 200 miles or so (doesnt matter how many or how little as long as you dont run it till the light comes on !), then fill to the brim again...this time log the Litres needed to fill up and how far youve travelled and using the calc posted earlier, you have your MPG since you first filled up, and so on etc
