Soon to be getting a Topsecret II Carbon bonnet and need advise on pins.

Has anyone experience with these, good or bad advise etc etc.

Easy to install?

My biggest concern is drilling through a nice new carbon fibre hood.

Really not looking forward to that :(

Isn’t Carbon fibre like glass, so has a tendency to shatter?

all info appreciated.

Mate, If that's the one from Whifbitz (Seibon), then no, you don't need pins. I've had mines 150 leptons +, no problems. You get a slight flutter on the bonnet but no problem. They use only the rear hinges, the hinges in front of the rears come off. I think it's best to use washers on the hinge bolts so you can adjust slightly. I'm sure Paul will advise you better, he fitted mines! Play with the bonnet stop rubbers on the front to get the bonnet to rest nicely.

They don't come with washer jets and I didn't want the trouble of removing the jets and hoses from my stock bonnet. I bought and fitted twin nozzle jets and hoses from Halfrauds, about ten quid for everything.

Cheers,

Ro

Thanks.

A VERY helpful post. Much appreciated mate ;)

Yes, its a Seibon.

Whats the carbon fibre weave pattern like on yours?

Any pics ;)

Think I’ll do without pins for awhile and fit a few cable ties just incase the latch brakes.

Weave is very good. I don't have close up pictures I'm afraid.

I don't particularly like the look of pins, and I really dont think you need the cable ties either! It uses the stock catches.

Sorry but really really have to strongly disagree here

Do not fit any C/F bonnet without pins - from wherever and whoever...

These can and will flex and you run the risk of them flying up onto the windscreen - this has happened twice now with people I know...no comment on the make etc, could be any

Just be safe etc!

Hmm, not sure? Might have! Will have a look later tonight or tomorrow. have to take the boy to see Harry Pothead later (lets be honest, flying on broomsticks, dragons chasing you? Sounds drug influenced to me), so will try to remember after that!

Obviously JK Rowling was smoking a reefer when she was reading Lord of the Rings!

Ill do them for you if you fancy a trip up to Envy. I must of done 10+ now without any problems. Or if you buy a bonnet from us I can supply a one pre-drilled to save you the hassle.;)

I can also fabricate you some brackets to sit on your inner wings, for the pins to sit into. Have a look at some engine shots of the Envy Supra and you will get the idea.

I have supplied these in kit form for other Supra owners if you fancy a go yourself.

Hope that helps

Any good bodyshop (or Kevin...!:)) knows how these are done

These boys are excellent and are also lockable..

I bought a seibon bonnet from paul whiffin too but it did need pins! it did have the bonnet catches in it, but still needed pins to hold the corners down nice and snug, i bought the pins that paul E sells, they are fantastic!! and dont look out of place as they Are carbon too.

it took all day to fit them as had to make some ally brackets to fit them to on the slam panel, the carbon bonnet is easy to drill but make sure you use a sharp drill bit and use masking tape to mark out the holes. it will not shatter.
