What will upgrading my standard downpipe do?

Im talking about the initial, flexy pipe. 2.5inch I believe? I have 3.1 to 3.5 pipe after that.

Im thinking of doing this to get a little bit better response low down and a better noise, maybe louder, better? Will both these things happen or is it a waste of money?

Yeah, ive been under it when it was on ramps. First pipe that comes from the turbo's, has a flexy section right in the middle of it. Anyone else upgrade this standard 2.5in pipe?
