View Full Version : heater buttons and lights
the bank of buttons that tell the air etc where to go dont light up is this right ?
they have lights above them but the actual buttons dont seem to be lit , i looked at 2 other soops and there the same, also the temp dial doesnt seem to be lit is this right too ?
It should light up. Dead bulbs probably.
Same with the two dials for heat setting and "blast force"
All three of my Supras did.
Fairly common problem i think, dead easy to replace though.
Bulbs are expensive though :thumbdown
See here - http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=31681&highlight=remove+centre+console for dash dismantling.
Not sure about the actual lights in the devices though. I imagne just plug in the back. Maybe need to remove a rear panel on them or something.
They untwist from the back of the unit

If its the lights that tell you where the air is going then those are LEDs and I seriously doubt that they have all gone. That leaves you with a dry joint somewhere that the power comes from for the LEDs. Ask heckler if he can take a look at the box for you as I think he has the LEDs and bulbs you will need. You have to take the entire dash panels out to get to it though :(
there are 5 bulbs in the heater control unit, to get to the ones you are talking about you will need to take the control unit appart. If you need some bulbs, i have LOADS!

Sounds like his LEDs aren't working either. The ones in the air directional control section

I have same prob. Not the LED's the back light is it a case of take the dash apart and look for the bulb???

Yeah, see what you mean... A fluke? (not the multimeter type ;))
Same here, the three to the right are out. When I smack the dash they sometimes come back on so I assume it's a dry joint?
Thing is I've had it apart and gone over it with a soldering iron and it still does it. Maybe it needs an expert touch?

All the bulbs are connected together, so I'd expect them all to be out, and come back on if you hit it. Did you go over the solder joints on the small PCB with the orange connectors?
are the bulbs the same that go into fruit machines??? i have loads of them about?
i don't know, i doubt it. - you'll have to remove the controler off the dash, then take the back of the controller off to get to the bulbs.

I have this exact problem too. So its the bulbs?
Taking the dash apart is not a problem, god knows how many times I've done that! So where can I get some bulbs from and what sort of $$ are we talking?

Yes, from what I can remember, took the black plastic housing off to expose the pcb and went over them all. It's only the three left ones that all go out together, you sure they are all connected?

Belive me - I am - I have taken them units appart many time doing blue LED conversions. All I can suggest is try moving the bulbs around and see if the snag follows..
the contact area on the pcb for the twist-in bulbs might be worn away. Some silver conductive-paint should fix that.
Same prob here. The strip that has the air direction controls on (points to the window, footwells etc) does not light up so I can not see what I select at night. However when 1 is activated the green light above the command lights up. I just have the bulbs out that show up where to point the air.
Well, if you ask me, this is a good reason to get an LED conversion ;) no more blown bulbs...
:Plug:
Heckler, this LED conversion you have just pluged lol.
Im thinking of going blue. Was going to do it myself. Or is it a bit of a job....e.g best left to those who know what there doing?
Just had the climate control thing apart and needing new bulbs for that.... Have you got pics of a blued up soop??
