View Full Version : Anybody know what these wires are?
I have changed my head unit and found some spare wires....
I have circled them in red in this picture. Are they something to do with the stock amp?
Also, normally the radio wire is just a black wire to the back of the stereo but it seems in the supra there is a silver box that it goes into and comes out of before going in the back of the stereo....if that makes sense! I circled it in orange. Any ideas what it is?
silver box could be poss linked to a phone car kit? im getting a bluetooth one and that comes with a blue box. fair bit bigger than that though.
Prob no help.
Could it be a frequency booster to get round the limits of a jap spec tuner?

Are you sure the wires are from the Headunit? could they be from a switch (active spoiler traction control)?
I was thinking band expander for the box but not sure.

I thought it could be a band expander....although when I got the car on friday the radio bands were not expanded.
The other wires were not plugged into the stereo but I can't see anywhere else they go. No active spoiler fitted, or a switch. There are a few plugs around the base of the gear stick though that don't plug into anything, i thought they might be active spoiler

The white one in the red circle i have on mine, i had no idea what it was so i just ignored it. Not a traction control, or anything to do with a car kit cos there's never been either on mine. My stereo works fine without whatever it is being plugged into anything though that's all i care about!!!!!

No idea about the orange.
The white connector block looks likt the two pin stock sub connector, you can probably ignore it.
The white triple bonded wire looks like it might disappear to the boot? a hidden sub perhaps - or at least the cable that used to connect to one?
As for the silver box - doesn't especially look like a band expander... what's on the yellow label?
can't read the writing on the yellow label. Its very worn.
Do I take it everybody elses aerial cabel is just a black wire that disapears off towards the back of the car?
I just noticed....by looking at my own picture......the white triple bonded wire and a red wire from the 2 pin connector go into the back of the silver box where the aerial wire comes out. Any other ideas?
The aerial input on the silver box is screwed in by the way. I will unscrew it on saturady to see if it is holding a standard aerial connector in place. so I can take the box out!
The bos is a band expander.
Where is the stock sub located. I have found various threads about it, saying it is under the back seats. Is it under the base or behind and under them? seems strange to be 'under' the seat itself. Is it any good? how big? how do I get to it?

usually found under front passenger seat.
Mine worked really well as a bin filler. ;)
Seriously the stock amps are toilet. Any new head unit with a built in amp will out perform this bad boy.
bypass it and strip it out, save yourself about 5kg in weight gain at the same time :D
