View Full Version : Blackpool Illuminations meet - Nov 6th 2005

last night of the illuminations, good excuse for a North West meet? (and ofcourse anyone who would travel from any further)

i've heard about a North West meet of the MG Rover club & the local CruiseBlackpool club who are also trying to arrange a meet for that night

could be some nippy little tomcats & turbo'd bubbles about for the journeys there and back :eyebrows:

there's plenty of car parks, pubs, McDonalds drive thru's etc nearby where we could meet, eat & drink etc

couple of maps below to show where we are & where we could meet:

Map1 shows how to get to Blackpool for those who don't know (aim for the red X)

Map2 shows how to get to the meet location from the end of the M55 (follow the green line until you get to the little Supra logo which is a retail park where there is a massive Morrisons car park right next door to McDonalds) the illuminations entrance is just a bit further down the road (shown on the map as colourful lights near the sea :drown: )

currently aiming for a 7pm meet, unless anyone objects?

Could be interesting, but not to be associated with the local "Cruise Scene" to$$ers.

you bloody snobs! the folks i've met to date who are members of the club are actually quite sound & it's very focused on car modification (mainly Ford stuff with the local experts Motorsport Developments beinga specialist) - they actually did a charity event a couple of months ago (a bikini car wash!)

anyways, it's our own meet if we prefer & there's plenty of places & the light are usually on till about 11.30 on a Sunday ( http://www.blackpooltourism.com/?OBH=270 )

does 8pm sound like a suitable time? i'll have a think about where would be a good place to meet if people want to say whether they will be wanting to get some food or anything, e.g. a location near a pub, McDonalds, etc?

sim, are you really coming from Sussex?!

updated the starting post to include a couple of maps and some further details (see post #1)

made the meet time 7pm unless there's any objections, to try and accomodate those travelling from a bit further who may still want to get home at a reasonable hour!

anymore for anymore? Brian, Dale, RedM, Animal, Shytot, Dave?

No idea as yet?. Getting out of B/Pool, shouldn,t be that bad. Only 5 thousand motors to worry about!

garetheves
24-10-05, 08:33
In terms of restaurants im not sure yet, im sure i can persuade Kate to come along if there are going to be other other halves there, just dont think she likes the idea of spending the whole night with us just talking about Supra's thats all. Shes not as into cars as i am and would only really be coming for the illuminations (which she has never seen despite being from the North West and being 24!!) and a meal.

garetheves
24-10-05, 08:55
Just been talking to a work collegue of mine who went to the illuminations last night and they said that by the time they were leaving at 7pm the queue to get into the illuminations was massive. So i propose we do the following:

Meet around 7pm (by then clocks will have gone back so more people should have gone through earlier with kids and that), grab something to eat and aim to head out to the lights about 8:30ish -9. Any earlier than that and im thinking we are going to be queueing for ages, plus the less number of people around the more chance we have of going through in convoy and not getting split up.

If this is ok with everyone then we can start looking for restaurants.

sounds like a plan

there's the Outside Inn next to the B&Q Superstore, just at the penultimate junction at the end of the M55 (Gaz, you know the one where i met you & Cav that time) plenty of parking & an interesting layout inside (medievil or something) You'll have to ignore the website http://www.outsideinnblackpool.co.uk/ though as it sucks

otherwise, the Shovels pub isn't too bad or there's the 'Air Balloon' which are both close to the entrance of the illuminations, however i think the Air Balloon is where MG Rover & CruiseBlackpool are meeting up

or there is Pizza Hut which is just near the end of the M55 and then 5 mins from the illuminations

the best place to eat is in town, http://www.westcoastrock.co.uk/westframe.asp but unfortunately there is zero parking nearby that i would consider 'safe'!

there are some jetwashes at Morrisons on the same road as the airport (Squires Gate Lane) or if you head up Squires Gate Lane back towards the motorway (away from the sea) when you get to the firs set of main traffic lights (after the speed camera) turn right and there is a drive thru jet wash place there on the right who will do it for you :OK:

It's not much of a service. As you come down the slip road it's two lanes, the left lane is a slip road in to Preston, so stay in the right lane. At the bottom of the slip road you will be able to see the BP garage. It's the 2nd junction off the roundabout, (thats including the sliproad into Preston as its a weird junction with dual carriage lanes). You should be able to find it okay.

All the Chavs from the Blackpool cruise arrived just before we went through the lights, when we got back from the lights Morrisons had complained about the Chavs and they had been moved on.

The police asked us to move on, but they knew it wasn't us that was at fault, they just needed to be seen to be even handed. They were quite funny about it actually.

Hi all great to meet you all last night, I cant believe how cold it is up there!!.Arrived back in Oxford today, travelled back in glorious sunshine, only took 3 hours, unlike fridays 6 hours to get to Blackpool!!.Still well worth it to meet such a great bunch of supra owners and the cruise through the lights was good fun. Hopefully next year more southeners will be in attendance,as we had a great weekend.

Good video that Toby, apart from the choice of music. Rasmus ok but TATU...Come on?? :p It looked like you had defected to the dark side in the video, your car looks black and i love the drunk that walks out in front of you towards the end. That sums up blackpool to a T. Reminds me of a many drunken night out there in my youth.

Cheers Ian, I will try not to take leslie to my next bike gear negotiations!
I nearly went to heaven this morning taken a sheep looking for grass in the middle of the road with me.We also had a great evening and loads of fun. Who drives the red soop that i played catch with on the way home (within the speed limit of course) no mud on car which rules out animal!

Was indeed me. :D Was a good run home.

My dodgy music taste. It could of been worse I could of left the music I had on in the car. Then it would have been really dodgy.

Excellent meet guys. Thanks very much for letting me tag along in my Golf. Also a big thanks goes to Dodgy for taking me out in his supra for a test drive even though we got lost on the way back!! The Question is now do I go for the new kitchen first or a supra?

as much as i'd like to say Supra first, i know how much it matters to keep these wife things sweet too!

hows about kitchen on a super special deal from Currys or wherever, buy now pay 2012 and you can get the Supra too then

nice to meet the folks i didn't know & good to see the peeps i do

sorry to those i didn't get chance to speak to

some lovely examples there & put the entire car park to shame - look at the crowd we attracted! it was that big we had to leave!

Mate, Supe,Supe,Supe forget the kitchen, just buy one of them kettles and fridges that plug into the cigarette thingy and turn the back seats into a food prep area, keeps everyone happy:looney:

Come to think of it i had one of them small fridges in my old car that i could have bribed her with. Never mind i'll just have to give her the kitchen she wants:whip: and wait a few more months. It just means you'll have to put up with that golf at every local meet:thumbdown until i get my supra:thumbs:
