For the past few hours I have gone through loads of old posts re ICE installs and am now going cross eyed looking through them.

So can anyone answer these few questions:

1. I am looking to just replace the fronts with a decent set of 10cm (4") 2 way speakers and I am told that I can drill/self tap these into the existing enclosure?

2. The rears will be be replaced with 17cm (6.5") 2 way speakers that hopefully should fit straight in (according to the other posts)?

3. I have a bass tube already but want to ditch this and utilise the space where the existing `hopeless` sub was installed (GZ model). Has anyone successfully used this space and got a decent bass sound? Would love to know what size sub and make you have used, how you did it and any pictures you may have. NB how did you remove the heavy plastic enclosure without cutting the wires that run through it? Also does anyone know what these wires are?

Note I already have ditched the standard head unit for a 40Wx4 `panasonic` which I intend to run the 4 main speakers and have a 200W amp installed to replace the stock amp to run the sub.

If anyone can offer advice as to speaker options for this type of set up, size restrictions, known problems issues etc I would be grateful. I`m not being lazy and have got loads of useful info off the previous posts but I want to double check I am correct before I start spending money!

1. yes you can but if at all possible take the speaker box out of the door and test the speakers for fit in the shop before buying. I had to butcher the old speakers to make a spacer ring before getting mine to fit.

2. I also believe they are straight fit, haven't done mine yet.

3. I haven't done this but I think with the box removed you should be able to get a couple of 8" in there, this was talked about in a thread not too long ago.

Sub in boot was not just a GZ thing, it was optional on all, my SZ had it.

Forgot to say, I've also disconnected the toyota amp and sub and I have a Vibe 10" sub and amp in the boot (separate box)

Hey mate,

1, Most 4" should go in, I think the infinity ones do. It may be worth taking out the old one and checking with your ice shop, it'll probably be the depth of the speakers that may cause an issue. The drilling eill be easy. if you can line up the holes of the new speakers, 3 screws may be enough.

2, Again you may need to drill one or two more holes if the holes of the new speakers don't line up. However, sometimes the rear speakers are glued in too! This makes it difficult to remove and you have to take the rear seats out so you can take the rear quarter panels out to get to the speaker mount. You then unbolt the mount and prise the speaker out of it (claw hammer is good!).

3, - I don't have experience of the stock sub replacement. You can build a custom box or a 10" sub box laid on it's back, with the angle following the rear glass will fit. Both ways will enable you to keep your spare wheel

If you have to remove the rear quarter panels it may be worth putting some dynamat whilst your at it - same for front door.

remove the rear panels and those wires go into a plug under the stock rear speaker enclosures
