I had the same story when i tried to find someone to spray mine candy with the car colour code. Candy isn't your normal spray one colour paint, so try your hardest to find someone who knows exactly what candy paints are and has sprayed them before.

You can't patch a candy for scratches etc. A mark means a full respray just like flip although i 'heard' you can get away with just a side sometimes. Expect a decent hike in your insurance in other words :(

I can't wait to see it done. You definately need to have someone do it that has painted candy before as its not easy. You first have to paint the car silver then the red over the top but when you paint it you have to "walk the car" so you get an even coverage. Candy is actually see through which is what gives it its uniqueness.

What colour is Suprachargedtt's car?

Candy Red!!

I had mine sprayed over a year ago and still loving the colour! It looks fantastic even when dirty!

I would bear in mind about some of the things people have said as regards getting the right company todo it. Its not a "normal" Paint as the car is sprayed silver then gold then the Candy red is actually the laquer, the more coats of the laquer the darker it gets.

The only downfall is that it cant be matched/blown over like a normal paint. I had my car keyed on the rear quater only about 10inches but there is nothing the bodyshop can do apart from respray the whole lot!!! Its a bloody expensive scratch but it cant stay there...

i might have to look around for someone to do it then, i dont wanna take any risks as its gotta be perfect. so is that all the method is then? silver/gold and colour laquer? any other details on what paints/codes? what red is best to use to mix into the laquer?

I don't think they just mix any old paint into the laquer. I think candy paint is a little bit more involved than just stiring in some colour. Same sort of principle though.

Its not a case of mixing "a red" into the laquer, you have to use the "Candy red" as it is a laquer (as far as i understand it). Also dont use any other Candys apart from House of Kolor as other types are known to "fade/Bleach" after a few months.

Im lucky as my local bodyshop specialises in candy/flip paints call Dave 02380 667992 and he will tell you all you need to know. They have painted several Candy cars now (a couple of 300zx, 200zx and a FTO in blue + others i dont know of) Also they have resprayed a few supras inc The Pink Ladys Pink!

The candy topcoat is only one shade of red... apple red. There is however a good 30 different bases, the most common being silver/gold as it's the easiest basecoat to get the light reflection needed to show candy's effect but the shade change is much less as a result.

Given the UK's chances of brilliant sunshine you can see why silver/gold is the most popular :)

Now a mirra-chrome basecoat would be interesting...
