They're thin metal strips on the side of the pad that sit between the pad and the piston... you may not have had them on before so he may not have had anything to put on... but a lot of people thrown them away anyway. Chris probably thought they add weight to the car ;)

Discs you mean of the grooved variety? Mine do as well mucho annoying. Wash the wheels out regularly though and its not as bad.

 

Must admit when i washed my car very thoroughly the other day they didn't make an ounce of a squeek! Might just have to wash a bit more often, my car that is!!!!

They VERY rarely squeal, so I expect they may just be bedding into the discs. If it persists i will post you an anti squeal shim kit FOC, but i have only once had to use them with my fast road pads, and that was with someone using grooved or drilled 9can't recall which) Taiwanese discs. Give them a couple of hundered miles to bed fully, if it persists just ring me and I'll post you some off. Sorry you have this noise.
