Alloy wheel refurbished

Hi Guys

Just thought I'd put a quick post up to let everyone know that I am having my alloys refurbished today at a place call lap-tab in birmingham. Apparently they are pretty good so I guess we shall see by the end of the day.

I was going to get them done in smoked chrome but due to the corrosion levels they have advised I just have them done in standard silver, which is a bit boring but hopefully they will look better than thy currently do. If anyones interested it cost me £180 for a set of four 18" wheels and as soon as I get the car back Ill post some pictures up for everyone to see the before and after shots.

For now I am stranded in Birmingham for the day trying to find things to do as the wheels will take until 5pm tonight to be finished, so drinking lots of coffee at an internet cafe somewhere in brum.

yeah they are split rims. Lap-tab did a great job and they look like new. The only problem however was the fact that I had a flat tyre yesterday morning after the wheels had been refurbed, but apparently this was not caused by lap-tab but is due to a ageing valve so kwik fit tell me.

The car needed new tyres anyway so I have had a set of pirelli p-zeros fitted which cost £550 and they have done a temp fix on the valves but i need to get these sorted as soon as possible.

Does anyone know of a place where I can get replacement valves for Rays Alloy Wheels?

That's interesting, do they completely strip down the wheel?

The few places that will do split rims want to keep the wheel and tyre for at least 4 days so that once it's been reassembled they can check that the seal is ok, i.e. the tyre doesn't go down.

Mine need doing, and the rears loose pressure over time so I think I need new valves....

  • 3 months later...

Need to find someone who would be prepared to straighten my TRD split rims.

One "hard" edge has a slight knock on it, so should not be too badly damaged, but the other wheel has quite a bad knock on the "soft" inside edge. Can these be repaired??

I took it to one refurber guy,who said his press couldn't straighten them as they were too hard, however, after the enormous amount of time he took refurbing a set of wheels, I suspect that he did nothing and just fobbed me off.

I should be getting my 3 piece splits rims back in the next week or two! the company I have used are a Father and son business up around junction 20 of the M25 in Hertfordshire , my rims had a few pot hole dents along the inside of them and this didn't seem to bother them in any way!

I will obviously post some before and after pics of the wheels when I get them back, but the cool thing about these guy is they are using a technique that allows a chrome finish using a spray gun - saves you having to send the parts to a chromer!! their prices seem to be very good, as long as the work is to this could be a great contact for everyone!

Have a look at their web site http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/
