View Full Version : Toyota speaker problem
Ok,
I've just had about enough with the stock headunit and speakers but before I replace anything I need to sort one problem out!
The problem;
The speakers on the passenger side work but the speakers on the right do not! I took the speaker out of the drivers side door yesterday and put a current though it and it functioned which left me puzzled! which kinda meant to me that even if I replace the speakers they still might not work on that side, so deos anyone have any ideas of the things I should be checking? before I take everything apart again?
Before the silly's come along the headunit afaik works as by changing the balance to the right there is no sound and in centre set up too.
TIA
Tom.

Take the stereo out and check for broken wires between the stereo and the speaker, if no problems it could be the headunit - but it is unlikely to stop only one speaker.
Have you got the standard amp under the passenger seat?
I'll probably check the headunit tommorow and I think I have the standard amp? I've never actually checked before! I'll have a quick look now.
I did actaully just open up the rears to find that I've got some 6.5" alpines in the rear which was a nice suprise! I tested this speaker too and it seemed fine.
It's the standard amp under the passenger seat.

It's got it, or it's the problem?
Lol sorry, I've got the standard amp, so how should I check everything as I'm sure it seems pretty difficult to follow the wires behind the dash?
Thanks
Mate if you're going for an aftermaket Head unit, you'll need the autoleads harness. If the speaker is still not working after this, it'll be easy enough to run new speaker wires through and attaching it to the relevant speaker output wires on the Harness. It may be you head unit or amp thats at fault, both of which you won't use when you replace the H.U. (obviously!)
Have you tried switching the outputs from the amp?
I had a problem with the headunit that came with my car (not the stock HU, an aftermarket one). The indicators and other electrical accessories "fed back" through the rear speakers, causing crackling sounds. At first I thought the speakers were at fault, then the speaker wires, then finally traced it to a faulty HU.
Have you tried switching the outputs from the amp?
Well I think the amp is the problem, I disconnected all the plugs to the amp and the speakers on the passenger side still worked whch I didn't think they would?
how do you switch the outputs??:stupid:

I'd suggest that as you want to put a new HU in anyway, do that before you spend hours looking for an issue that could actually be with your stock amp, that you are going to bin.
If this issue is still there, then the dash will be apart and you can test the more direct speaker cables without having to worry about the stock amp etc.
ok thanks for the help people!
