Yes, TRD is red and the standard item is black with white writing on I believe?

95% of members on here tell people not to waste money by going with Toyota main dealer services but they ignore it believing that they are getting the best that money can buy.

If possible go with one of the many independents that people sing the praises of on here, OK so you don't get the Toyota stamp but anyone that knows these motors realises that this is worth nothing anyway.

Well tucked up then :p Wonder what crappy oil they put in for your £170?

What's with the importance of the Toyota stamp? To get top dollar when you sell it'll probably go to an enthusiast who will appreciate a good independent service as being far better and more thorough than a Toyota one.

Unlikely, as most enthusiasts will already have one, which may explain the lack of movement in the cars for sale area of the BBS.

Selling Supras is no different to selling any other car. Original cars with low miles, few owners, and MDSH will always be the easiest cars to sell. Look at any buying guide for the Supra and all of them will emphasize the need for FTSH. Whether or not an Independant is better doesnt really matter, the chances are that the person coming to buy your car will never have heard of them.

If you were buying a Ferrari or an Aston, would you want a car with FMDSH, or would you accept the buyers word that the Independant Garage he uses is better, and them stamping the service book, will have no effect on the resale value?

the main purpose of toyota (or any other main dealer servicing) is that it is a condition of a warranty that servicing is carried out

so after warranty expires you dont strictly NEED to service it at the dealers

so your mate with the garage wil do, as long as you can trust him to fit decent plugs, filter and use decent oil

OK, so would you say that the extra cost over the years and the dubious level of service is worth doing? Surely better to be confident that the job has been well done and the car maintained to a high level than having a book stamped by a main dealer?

IMO you will never get the extra cost back when it comes to selling regrdless of the MDSH and I for one am not happy trading quality workmanship with a stamp.

At least Ferrari and Aston probably have mechanics that know their cars, something Toyota main dealers clearly lack in my experience when it comes to the Supra.

Me neither, but I am more than happy for my local Toyota dealer to service my car, which normally is just changing fluids and filters and checking the car over (brakes etc). The guys there are more than competant and show a genuine interest in the car.

Regarding cost, the last 'A' service cost me around £75 and the 'B' service before was about £220. (They were happy to use the engine oil that I supplied). Doesn't seem bad value to me, though I do only have the car serviced once a year as it doesn't do too many miles.

There are good Toyota dealers and bad Toyota dealers, same as there have been some stinging threads on here about supposed Supra specialists.

I think having MDSH is a good thing for me, depends on how happy you are with your local dealer. (and how pricey they are!)

No Toyota service costs £550, but then again there's no such thing as a "full service" either.

You're local to me aren't you? Where did you take it and what did you ask them to do exactly?
