Nope, I have a load of mates that go down there, and was going to be there myself if I could have finished work earlier. and would have probably been parked out on the road. I was called at about 11:30pm last night telling me about it..

And maybe calling him a c**t is harsh in your opinion, but I can tell you now, if it was my car he crashed into, he wouldnt be able to EVER drive a car again.... Also, if he had (god forbid) killed anyone, and it was someone I knew, he certainly wouldnt be around to regret his actions...

I'm all for a bit of fun, and do speed over the speed limits, but when its NOT dangerous, not down a 30mph road, on a very busy evening, when people are walking around looking at cars etc. It was completely irresponsible to drive like a twat, and now, 3 people dont have the use of their cars.... IMHO, he should feel more than terrible.... He should loose his licence! along with the other minority of idiots that drive irresponsibly down there!!!

Rant over, I am just glad that no one was hurt, and I am glad he stuffed his car, just a shame that he wrecked 2 other cars too.

Hogmaw, saw the car but not you. Shame we couldn't squeeze another onto the forecourt.

Ewizzy, people are driving like that the whole night. So what happened?? Were the other cars parked??

ewizzy, chill dude, im sure lui knows his mistake, and doesnt need pointing to anymore. as you say glad no one was hurt.

although this is my second time there. the first time i went, 2years ago, i remember seeing an idiot drifting left and right, on that narrow road. always made me wonder how dangerous it is. even ray mentioned at the begining of thread how a girl got knocked over last month.

james, my bro was wondering, since you like the supe in white, and he likes the supe in black want to swap :p

Of course, nothing to do with the fact he was doing 90+ down that road....nonono, nothing at all to do with that..... Sorry, but he deserves everything he gets..... And no, I wont chill out about it, I would have loved to see your reaction if it was your car that he ploughed into....

As you say ewizzy, no one would be happy at all if it was their car. Did you say you HAD been there before?? If so then you'll know what speeds people do up and down there. I'm not saying Lui was right for doing that speed but people who park in an area where such things happen should take more precaution for their actions. Opening a car door sounds trivial, but unfortunatly it contrbuted to a mess.

I see your point of view, and I would be livid to. But.... my personal opinion is that you can bet that Lui is beating himself up enough over the entire incident, the repairs, the embarrassment alone.

I'm not defending him at all, infact, I'm sitting on the fence, because he is not the only person to have sped up that stretch of road to make a statement - it could have happened to anyone.

ewizzy
05-10-05, 20:25
I have been there loads of times, I lived in london for 10 years and went every month for nearly 3 years.... And yes, I have seen all the idiots doing stupid speeds up and down there... Does that make it right though, just becasue other people do it, liu could do it and it was all fine ? No, I dont think so..... and TBH, if anyone does speed up there, then they deserve to crash, Its just a shame hehit 2 other peoples cars.. And putting some blame on someone opening their door..... Well, sorry but bollox... the guy could have looked round, not seen anyone, started opening their door, the speed liu was going, he could have just come off the mini roundabout and got to his car in the time it took to look round and open his door..... Its no ones but the cock who was speedings fault.... and quite frankly, I cant believe ANYONE can do anything but condemn the dickhead....no, he isnt the only one, but then, jsut becasue he has a Supra, you are all defending him....

Quite frankly, I'm disgusted......

I left just after 11 so must have just missed it. It was a mad night tho, all that screaming up and down a road with a 30mph limit with all those big post office lorries and the looks on the innocent unsuspecting faces of the granny drivers in their micras with jap heat scorching past :eyebrows: . To be honest it was great entertainment, that M3 doing donuts over the roundabout, the bike pulling wheelies & stunts, the mad fast GTO blink and you missed him BUT there is NO WAY I would ever do that in my car. Maybe I am too old & boring now but I know the risks and they are BIG risks as the supra found out. If you take ANY risk you have to be able to pay for the consequences and weighing up last night there was an accident just waiting to happen. Click here (http://www.zen83630.zen.co.uk/acecafe.html) for some pics from the night (not mine) scroll to the bottom for badness

Sorry to say it, I have to agree with ewizzy...

Yes, I muck about on the roads myself, I'll put my hands up to it.. however I've stopped going to cruises because of exactly this kind of thing, it only takes one person to forget the laws of physics when it comes to a car with the adreanline pumping...

Last Reading cruise I was at the same thing happened, everybody pushing us to show what the supra's can do... thing is I didn't step up to it, purely because I know what the supra can do... why do I need to prove it to a bunch of people in corsas and the likes....

It is a hard lesson learnt sadly...

It is not a matter of taking side in other defence, it should simply be a lesson learnt...

How would you guys feel if one of us slide into your cars?? somehow don't think it will be as calm as it is now... just a thought for the night...

Anyway, that is enough of that...

Homer
05-10-05, 23:29
I'm with ewizzy & gav. Mucking about on open roads is one thing, but doing that sort of thing on a crowded street is asking for trouble.

I'm sorry that Lui has damaged his car, but think of the e30 owner driver, his P&J is going to be written off because of this.

Assuming Lui was speeding or driving like a loon in a crowded area the that's just asking for trouble.... especially when the roads get slippy

Agree could have been a lot worse.....can be seen as a lucky escape. No excuse for this sort of behaviour though....then we all do make mistakes and this is a hard lesson to learn.

06-10-05, 09:18
Once bitten twice shy, im sure he will learn from this and modify his driving style(well i hope he will) and not give in to peer pressure.
I am not condoning his actions it was a stupid thing to do and it will be sinking in as he gets the bill but i still feel sorry for the guy as no one likes to crash their car and have hundreds of people around them taking the piss.
Filming it and taking pictures, especially nowadays, where you can guarantee it will be on the tinternet in 5 minutes flat ?
I have been to the ace cafe before about 5 years ago and they were hammering it back then, i always park my car well out the way of the main spectator bits as this can and does happen.

Even though it wasn't my car it still made me cringe looking at the poor supra

Plus if he was the ONLY person to have every have sped up that stretch of road then yes - call him a tosser and all the names under the sun.

But I personally have stood there and watched Skylines and Scoobys speed up and down that road, drifting round the roundabout.

It really could have happened to anyone of those cars as I said earlier.

Supra_Nish
06-10-05, 09:54
I think excusing him just because others do the same makes no sense whatsoever.

Do you excuse killers because other people have done it before? And lets face it, it is out of pure luck no one died here. You can see form the damage on the supe that if it had connected with a person in any manner they wouldn't be around anymore.

Yes he has a supra, yes he's one of our members etc but if this was a guy on another board I'm sure he would have been condemned by now.

I do have some sympathy under the circumstances in which it happened, i.e. showing off the car to others etc. But come on, Chris Webley and Costas were there, in there huge power machines, you don't see them doing this kind of thing.

Supra_nish. I'm not excusing what he did at all. My point is that you can't shout at one person for doing what everyone else has done as well. Yes he did lose control of the car, and I think its a lesson learnt for everyone. :thumbdown

Supra_Nish
06-10-05, 10:32
I think being shouted at is the least of his worries really.

I see your point how_supra, but in my eyes they're all equally stupid.

If one of my mates was doing something like that, crash or not, I'd be screwing at him too. Surely if most people did this then this type of thing wouldn't happen.

Excusing people because others have done it before will only lead to this happening again.

This may seem like a complete contradiction from my previous statement, however I will put my hands up and say I've been sucked in by the atmosphere in the past and gone out with a carrot up my arse at stupid speeds at a cruise and mucked about, not in the supra tho....

I ended up spinning it, and luckily the worst that happened was me looking like a complete pratt... these things do happen....

The thing is, it just needs to be a lesson.. I doubt it is one lui will ever make the same mistake again...

I for one look forward to seeing the car on the road again with an appreciation for just how dangerous these cars can really be (well, any car in truth)..

MMMMMM

V V daft.

I drive like a wazok at times but I really do try and reign it in when there are people and potential for an accident like this. I've done that sort of speed on a deserted 30 limit road at night before and still to this day marvel at how ridiculously stupid it was :(

Problem is there is a massive potential for an accident and as this proves one will happen in the fullness of time. The reason that 30 limits are 30 is not because the speed police want to make us go slow its because people do open doors, step out in front of you without looking, etc etc in urban areas. The speed limit is there and set at an amount to reflect the amounts of hazards that may present themselves and afford the maximum amount of ability to stop in order to prevent accidents.

Nobody "deserves" to crash their cars or be crashed into but if you flagrantly ignore limits you have to expect that at some point you'll have to stand and take the rap when it all goes wrong. Fortunately for me I'm growing sense faster by the day and seeing this sort of going wrong event helps to remind me that I need to slow down or in fact to not speed up in the first place.

I say don't be too harsh on this one.

S*** happens and I think lui would like to have some support over the incident and all the embarassment.

we all do stupid things from time to time and you burn and learn. crashing supra is an expensive hobbie and I have been there and done that. For his action I will call him a TWAT but for the outcome I am sorry to see that happen and I wish lui good luck at repairing or recovering the supra.

Someone got to do stupid speed and stunt at meet like that for entainment, I remember enjoying watching silly speed and slide at Box Hill or even bov!!. I enjoy watching that and was waiting for accident to happen, lets leave those stunt for other tbh, keep our supra and lives safe.

It's all about weighing up the risks. A clear dry day, open road with no traffic, warmed up car in top condition and a speed like that in a short blast (not cruising) with an experienced driver behind the wheel is alright with me. Works in Germany doesn't it. Accidents happen at all speeds, it is not speed that kills, just careless driving and/or bad luck.

toyotasuprauk
06-10-05, 13:27
An accident at 170 would be horrific. There was an accident on the A23 last year when a speeding bmw went over the central reservation at just over 100 killing about 7 people I believe. I was about 20 cars back and the mess was unbelievable at 170 I cant even begin to imagine what the cars would look like.

Its easy to get worked up with the crowds and atmosphere though which is why I'm surprised the police aren't all over that road. In Brighton the equivalent is Madeira drive, the police used to drive up and down there all night long sometimes on a 'cruise night' they just closed the road! Now they have put massive blockades across the road that you have to weave round to slow up the traffic.

170 on that road and causing an accident would be plan silly and i they would deserve everything they get. But 50 odd in a 30 i think is something different. What was done was silly and he's now paying for it in more way than one.

I think lessons have been learnt, with any Supra TT you have to know how to drive it,

You see young guys with them who can afford the insurance but not experienced... you may as well give them a gun..

But everyone goes to the Ace for the entertainment

IF YOU ARE REALLY HONEST...

I feel this was unfortunate and maybe just lack of experience on Luis part in the car, and events ...

but true the speeds are getting out of hand up there...

This seems to be a bit of a witch hunt... it's mentioned on all forums and everyone is bad maouthing Lui which to be honest isn't really fair guys...

We have all done it up the Ace, we all put our foot down... why else would we have a jap performnce car??

Perhaps the guys who speed and act like dicks every month should think hard..

I have met Lui, he didn't come across a a boy racer, he was really proud of his car and was looking forward to Santa Pod etc as he has not long had it,

I think this is a real downer for him,

Humilating the guy like this all over the net I think is unfair and has turned into a bit of a witch hunt

Well thats my view...

Hope he was ok, and no one was injured.. THAT IS THE QUESTIONS WE SHOULD BE PUTTING FORWARD.

Knowing how to drive a car and actually driving it like you know you should are 2 different things. I know how to drive my car. Occasionally I drive it in a manner I really shouldn't. If someone opened a door on me at times that door would probably get ripped right off. In this instance Lui was driving in a manner he shouldn't have been. He wasn't the only one but that doesn't mean you'll get away with it.
Its the way of life Lui will now have to put up with the shit he's gonna get just as I would if and when it ever happens to me. Sure he was probably unlucky but your odds aint great when you drive out of the envelope and the further out you go the more risk you take.

AS far as people being hurt goes it does say earlier on in this thread or the other one that no-one was hurt (apart from emotionally and financially) which is at least 1 thing.

No, its not a witch hunt... and in answer to your other statement " we have all done it up the Ace" No, I really havent, I travel there, I park my car, I go talk to mates and look at cars, have some food, then go... never exceeding the limit near the Ace... Whats the point of putting your foot down there? does it give you a buzz? does it make your cock grow?

Its not a witch hunt at all, I would condemn any of the cunts that speed up there... Its almost as bad as speeding past a school.. In fact, Ive standup arguments with some of the nobs that drive their cars too fast up there...

I think this thread should be locked anyway now, it pointless, there is always going to be idiots that speed up at the Ace... personally, I think they should put specs cameras there... might stop some accidents

This is good that everyone expresses their opinion,

This is what a forum is really about..

I too don't speed up there as I take my 12 year old lad with me.. we have been going since the very first meet

It has just come across that he has been made a bit of an example of, when there are many many people who drive fast there, it used to be a quick blast 1-2nd and that was it immediatley,

now you get idiots driving past above 30mph, not good in such a confined space I totally agree

I agree there should be more control there....

And no it doesn't make my cock grow with the buzz, I have a wife for that..
Thought this was a discussion about the Ace and how things are getting out of hand ??? not about my cock

I for one would be the first person to be gutted if it got shut down because of idiots,

There are some really great guys and Ladies that go there every month, and some real friends have been made over the years.

I agree lets put this discussion to bed now as some of the comments aren't really nice

Hope everyone has a great day at the Pod tomorrow and leaves the Racing for the Track

I think lessons have been learnt, with any Supra TT you have to know how to drive it,

We have all done it up the Ace, we all put our foot down... why else would we have a jap performnce car??

So someone with only a few months in it should know how to drive it? Sorry, any car I've ever had has taken longer than that to gel with!

I've been to the Ace and no, I've not done it. Don't rise to fools :thumbdown

MMM how well did you gel with your supe :) Ok that was a bit below the belt :D To be fair its mostly eejits in inadequate braking and handling cars that usually have problems with hitting things when they go too fast.

I'd done everything possible to aid my supe in staying on the road and have had no trouble with any other cars........... Just ask Homer about the very spot it happened....... Oh, and I wasn't going fast either.

How freaky, i think that Lui bloke came over and chatted to me whilst i was in the Fire-up lane for the drag strip at SantaPod yesterday, he was asking bout my TopSecret carbon bonnet and told me how he damaged his down the Ace last week, is this the same guy???

I was gonna pop down Ace last Tues night but was too tired from work and didn't wanna turn up too late in case the was no where safe to park and my car might get smashed-up by some exhibitionists, may have a been a good call afterall.

i say unlucky to the guy we all make mistakes. We have all taken undue risks in our time as drivers. (i would say anyone on here who says they havent would be lieing) Going over a 100 because you can is an undue risk, Overtaking a car on a long single stretch of road because its clear is a risk that doesnt need to be taken...bet u had to break the speed limit. Lui's risk, speeding down a clear road... when something door in this case made him crash.

If it was one of us going down a road at 100mph and a rabbit jumped out and smashed front bumper, we'd all be going sorry to hear that, nothing would be said of the speed.

Only people who should be condeming him are people who never broken the law driving wise.

P.s if you ever been to a meet, then im pretty sure you've broke th 70leptons mark ;)

Im prepared to be flamed :D

Well the owner of the Rover did a runner as his car was uninsurred or taxed so i guess it's only gonna be the beemer of claims.

Your right mate. There are a fair few on here who have lost their cars to at low speed who havn't been given the same reaction.

Mate 100 on a road with a rabbit on it will be a 60 limit not a 30 limit in a city centre with cars parked on both sides which have doors, doors that can be opened at any moment. Two different things James. Thing is as well any accident that happens in public view cannot have spin placed upon it. Any accident that happens out of public view suddenly becomes a patch of diesel or some other excuse and there is no proving otherwise. Thats why stupidity of driving is best left to when you aren't going to get egg on your face.

Don't get me wrong I'm not harranging the guy. I've done it myself (albeit at gone midnight on a totally empty road but thats no justicfication). And I will agree that it was a damn assed stupid thing to do something I will never repeat.

OK, own up.... Who drove like a tit 100+ down there past the cafe and wrote of their car and someones Beemer and a calibra :thumbdown

I know what your saying mate, but the point i'm trying to make is if he was doing 100, even say 70 then it's a really big shame he didn't make Santa Pod coz he would have been pulling 9's all day long. The story has been taken and changed to make it sound better, classic chinese whispers. I don't really want to post on this anymore but i'm embarrased by some of the comments made by other members. I also notice that none of the people who were there the night have actually had a bad word to say, just the people who read the story.

I obviously spoke to Lui as he bought the car off me a couple of months back. He seemed like a nice guy, and a responsible driver to me. I guess the buzz of showing off got the best of him here.

Its a real shame to see all the Time and Money I spent on that car end up this way.

I feel sick seeing my old car look like that.

Here here James well said.... We had a chat about this at the Pod on Sunday while you were waiting to go up the strip..

Correct the guys who go to the Ace regularly and know Lui, know the full story, so the slating and slagging off is not cool guys..

Very easy for some to slag him off calling him a c**t ( very friendly ) etc
which to be honest is not nice especially as we are all supposed to be enthiuasts of the Supra when they clearly don't know the facts and don't know Lui...

I doubt it it gave him a buzz or made made his cock grow bigger as has been mentioned before in this thread!!! by a very freindly chap

Some of the comments made have been embarrasing and nasty for a club ... friendly bunch!!!

It was caused mainly by an idiot in an uninsured car (apparantley) not just by Lui going to fast.. an unfortunate chain of events,
As you say to get the speeds being quoted in a few yards well he would be pulling 9's or less all day at the pod..

I'm not going to comment on this anymore as its been a bit of an eye opener, some comments made have been not nice

I have spoken to Lui, and he explained what happened. Although he is not blameless it appears to have been an unfortunate sequence of events. Not to mention my old pride and joy getting messed up.

I am sure the majority of us here have made mistakes and had accidents in the past. I am not excusing it at all, but some of the comments made are indeed a little out of order.

Knowing the facts and not commenting blindly would have been better here.

Lui is a nice guy and yes he had an accident, but what people have said in this thread has really got to him and you are putting him off this forum which is a real shame, as this forum is probably the best place to be for any Supra owner in the UK.

You can tell that Lui was really enthusiastic about his new Supra from the first post in this thread, and we all know that enthusiasm and goading from others can lead to mistakes. Yeah Lui made a mistake, which unfortunately was in such a public place, and I'm really sorry that Lui has been shot down in such a public manner on here. The fact that this thread resurfaces every other day can't help the poor lad.

In my humble opinion I think this thread should now be locked so that we can all carry on with our lives, and not push a new member away. We've all learned from Lui's error of judgement (none more so than Lui himself) let's leave it at that, and hopefully he'll come back and benefit from the community.

I'm not one to rub salt in peoples wounds, hit a man while his down, whats the point? I'm sure he's learnt his lesson, his insurance company will have him over a barrel at renewal, surely there's no need for fellow Supra owners to tear the arse out of him too.

Anyway as i asked in my only other post on this topic i take it the bloke i spoke to at Santa Pod who said he had a Top Secret carbon bonnet like mine was the guy in question??? Im pretty sure he said he stacked it at Ace. He seemed like a sound bloke and not a baseball cap weilding boyracer id expected from comments read in this thread.

Ive driven past there (on A406) many times and heard how popular a cruise/meet night it was. Some of the bikers at work had told me if i were gonna go down there you have to get there early or you'll have nowhere to park, is that right?

I feel sorry for this guy, from what little of the Ace i can see from the A406 cant imagine he'd be hitting 100 round there that easily, like turner said if he'd run his car at the pod he'd be running 9's all day!

Although feeling sorry for the guy the "Cronicles Of The Cafe" ive heard in this thread has made me at little aprehensive about ever goin down there cos i'd be worried bout my car, maybe some of the guy's that actually drive down there can reassure it still a worthwhile place to visit on a Jap Cruise night.

Steve i think it probably was Lui at Pod. He did manage to make it up there but not with the sup. There's not alot of what i'd call safe parking there. When it's on again pop up there and have a look. I'm sure a few of us may make an appereince up there again.
