Well the sound from my original head unit and speakers is pants.
I have a problem though as I do not want to change the look of the dash too much if at all!
Is it possible to vastly improve the sound quality just through changing the amp and speakers?
Is there a decent double din head unit(black with Green backlighting).
Anyone recommend a decent audio specialist in the Merseyside area?

Appreciate any suggestions. :help:

An amp and speakers will improve the sound, but i doubt the standard headunit has preouts to connect the amps too so probably not worth worrying about. There are plenty of single din headunits that will suit the dash fine, look at Becker and Nakamichi for example and will sound a million times better than the original. The single din facia slot really doesnt look bad, there are some picture with it installed on here, and with the right headunit it really does look stock(ish)

If you really want to keep the original head unit but use a different amp, you can buy speaker level to line level (pre-out) converters. You will need probably need two as all the ones I have seen are two-channel only.

An ICE shop will know what you need.

Sound quality will suffer with line level converters though

Can't say I ever noticed when I used one, but then again that was in a different car with a very small amp and I'm no ICE buff.

All depends on price really, from what I remember Nakamichi are bloody expensive. For the price of an amp and all the line level wiring, you're getting close to the cost of one of the Kenwood DDX doubledin screens that Nic is able to get, they have balck boarder and green lighting, look like they could of come as standard fitment and they are bloody cool......

Not that I have one at all......

Cheers Diggsy now I know that it is possible, more to think about! I must admit that the Kenwood unit is a nice bit of kit. Has anyone got pictures of it fitted?
I know I am going to be with the car for the long term. Need to make a decision i.e. should I go down the debt route and get it all done at once. Got other things planned with the car which will cost, but one thing is for sure I cannot cope with the sound quality in the long term.

Depends what you would call expensive? You can get a CD400 for £400.

Personally my coice would be a Becker and a pocket, £270 and £200 respectively :)...

Matt you are right they do look stockish. I have had a little look around and had no idea were to start but both units would not look out of place. Whatever way I go I'll keep the original equipment then if its important to any future buyers its there should they need it. Straight after she is serviced I will be looking to upgrade me thinks.
I think I have deceided what I need for Christmas.
