View Full Version : Tweeters
Greetings One and All,
Ok, had have gone through lots of previous posts on this subject and i am now more than a little confussed as to the best path forward.
Do i replace the stockers in their original location or will i get better sound from putting new ones in the A-Pillar, Footwell or Door panel?
If i replace in the original location where do the existing wires go to so i can link them into the crossover which is in the door or would it be best to replace with new cable and if so how easy is it to fed the cable through the dash?

I think my best result was to buy a DECENT pair of components and fit the tweeters ...
Anywhere you like really, depending on the type of music, sound of music you prefer..
Mine are on the door near the Mids, cause......they are, and were very easy to fit and hide the crossovers etc...
my tweeters are in the kick panels/foot wells - works good for me :D

Im also trying to find the best place to put my tweeters was thinking of putting mine there, so they sound ok then? :eyebrows:
STUPID question....but...
is the 'supply' going to the original DOOR speaker a 'Full Range' supply ?
ie. it hasn't ALREADY been 'crossed-over' as it were ???
or, do you need to intercept the wires going to the original TWEETER as well
seems a bit weird if they have seperate mids/tweeters original but supply
full range to BOTH ???
i dunno.... i haven't a CLUE what i mean really

The "full" range of sound goes to the factory door speakers.....I think theres a capacitor or coil (I forget which) on route to the tweeter though...
The factory speakers are about 5 watts, so it doesnt matter really, and the tweeters get the treble...
Better to replace the wiring completely and run (at least) the door wires to your crossovers and then new wires to the new components...
Unless you cant be bothered ! ! ? ?

Sounds damn fine to me :D:D
I liked the idea of putting them in the original locations but can only see the install resulting in death or flailings hence the question.
If they sound ok in door/footwell then by god that is where they are going to go!
TBH tweeter positioning is a bit hit and miss, it depends on the speakers, the listener, the type of music, the angle etc... The only real way to determine the best position is to blue tack them in different positions and have a listen.
As for the crossover, the driver should ideally be bandpassed i.e. low passed and high passed. Obviously the tweeter is high passed. I'm nt sure how the wiring works in the Supe, TBH these things are usually so over complicated im just going to rip it all out and wire my own supplies :)

Looking good!...
Sorry but I can't see what's wrong with the stock location
:dontget: Surely it would sound better coming from directly in-front of you rather than down by your feet?
Its a tricky thing, some will sound better off-axis (i.e. not pointing at you) and some sound better on-axis. I cant imagine it easy getting a good high soundstage with the tweets all the way down there though tbh.
