Washer Jets

Hey ppl. Another newbie question im afraid!

Have looked in the FAQ but no luck. And you'll probably slap me for how dumb this is.

Last night needed to use the washer jets for the first time! And could I work out how to, no! Pulled and pressed everything I could but no water came out. What should I be doing?

I havnt had a chance to check the washer bottle yet cos the car is in the garage today getting a new alarm fitted, but will check later when i get it home.

They were working. On the J-spec TT, it's a compressed air system that literally blasts the muck off the screen, instead of using water and detergent.

This is because Japan has strict environmental laws about detergents and solvents etc.

What button should I be pressing/Pulling?

Yes he's taking the piss, the jets operate on the button on the end of the stalk, like a horn would on some lesser makes of car.

Cheers matey. Defiantly whacked that button a few times, hopefully its just the washer bottle empty then and not a new squirty mechanism needed!

Not sure if its just an SZ thing or a facelift thing, but mines a pull - why they made that change I don't know.

I would have thought if you push it any way and it had no water in you would be able to hear the little motor trying to work and squirt the water out ????

Tried the rear wiper too? Rotate the stalk around and hold it. You're probably just dunning dry, you can usually hear the motor try to squirt water.

I'll try that tonight, was driving at about 80 at the time, so couldnt really hear much!

is there anywhere, previous threads, that have diagrams for all this stuff, and like what everything is under the bonnet? could do with that considering i have no hand book

You sure? As mines a facelift and mines on the button? Mine is a TT, but they would not make a different system for the NA.

Pulling on the stick makes the wipers cycle once.

I had a helluva time getting used to Keith's pressy button on the UK, I thought it was just a wierd UK thing, but my brothers Jap one has the pressy thing too!

Very strange that you don't have the button, does it actually have a button on it then or not? Also what do VVTi owners have, button or pull stick?

think mine has the pull forward washer jet thingie too.

Like monkey said, see if you can hear the little motor trying to work.

Does the washer motor have a separate fuse?

No button at all I'm all button less.

Its p'ing down outside! so that i dont get too soaked where is the washer bottle? dont wanna be standing around with the engine bay open for too long

never in a million years! i know them japs do crazy things, but that would have been crazy

Hurrah all is ok. bottle was empty and the jets had brown crap in!
