View Full Version : Fixed the fuel cut (bang) kind of sound on my car!
Guys remember my so called detonation/ fuel cut kinda sound I was getting on part throttle at 4500 RPM?
I finally fixed the problem!! The damn accelerator cable had too much slack in it and made it feel sticky and slow in response when I pressed on it, so I tightened it to get a responsive feel at the same time not exceeding idle RPM. took it for a drive the bang sound just went away. From what I can think, the slack in the accelerator cable was causing some confusion with the Throttle Position sensor and making that fuel cut bang? Anyone know why the throttle cable was causing this and how the throttle position sensor works in determining fuel flow?
Boy I am so relieved!!:D
:)
Good to see that you got it fixed Randy :)

Oh no - this was the greatest question facing man
Just the meaning of life left:p
Glad it's sorted

Anyone know how the throttle position sensor works with the accelerator to determine fuel flow?:) Where are the tech guys?:conf:

I'm not a tech guy, I'm just wondering why.... for the love of God WHY do we need to see full specs of a car in a flaming sig?

To impress I imagine, although quite why the world would be interested in what turbo timer or fuel cut device anyone has fitted is beyond me

Oooooooo...someones not had their shreddies today!
LOL!:p
I mean BradB has got it right - but I would be pretty proud of the things that I had done to my car - so why not?
I mean look at mine now
:baa:

Not a fan of shreddies myself, more of a toast man. :p
Bradly's happens to be funny. Honestly though, there is listing your spec and then just going bonkers. Further to what Gavin has mentioned we even get to know the exact make and size of tyre plus wonderful 'virtual' specs which aren't even on the car yet!
I'm just sour this morning, I was going to drag the Supra out to have a bit of a blast but its only pi**ing down isn't it! Mind you, I'm not sure I've even got enough fuel in it to get to the nearest super-unleaded pump.
Does it never occur to anyone that if everyone had sigs like that then the BBS would be 5% content and 95% crap? Hrmmm... hang on.... :devil
Anyway Randy, sorry for runining you original thread! Oops! Over to anyone who can actually help him.

You can turn sigs off as an option in the user control panel.....
Works for me..

and then it becomes a problem knowing if its a UK spec or j-spec unless you commit everyone's car to memory.
I know which i find more irksome........

Left Front Wheel, Silver with BLACK Tyre !
Right Front Wheel, Silver with BLACK Tyre...ALSO !
Left Rear Wheel, STILL Silver with a BLACK Tyre !
Right Rear Wheel, Silverish with VERY Dark Grey....well...Black Tyre ! !
OH, and it's a SUPRA !
BUT SERIOUSLY...
Just for interest, we had a 2.0 DOHC 8v Sapphire in the other day
with a 'stalling/cutting out at lights' type fault.
After fiddling with everything else the fitter tried disconnecting the
Throttle Postition Sensor.
VOILA ! The car purred at idle, ran perfectly, wouldn't stall...in fact
it was like a new car !
Even retested it on the emission tester....PERFECT ?(*)
I have no doubt that every T.P.S. does a slightly different job on
each make/model of car, BUT, WHAT job (s) I haven't a clue ?
[ BTW, we bought a new T.P.S. for the Sapphire and fitted it - still
perfect - so obviously the original was faulty - BUT, why/how did
it run WITHOUT one at all ? ? ? ]
[ pps. most T.P.S.'s are directly connected to the throttle butterfly..
as is the Supra's...how would a loose cable affect it ? ? ]
(*) THIS IS A TRUE STORY !
Fat-TwatS.:p
GRRRRRRRRRRRR Signature cut short!! happy!!:D ;)
[ with a time like that, it's STILL a fairly flash sig you know ! ]
Ignore the argumentative lot on here Randy ;), I for one was interested in your mods. I've seen pictures of your car, very nice, and very nice 1/4 time. Glad the problem's fixed.
ARGUMENTITIVE......THIS LOT ....... ? ?
NEVER !
