View Full Version : Alpine under seat sub?
Having upgraded my front and rear speakers I've noticed a glittering omission.... absolutely no bass! I don't want to put a sub in the boot as I need all the space I can get, and don't want to spend uber-money on a custom install (I'm also way to lazy for that!). I also don't want really really loud bass, just something to compliment the accuracy of the front speakers
Ideal solution would be to take out the stock amp and put a small sub in it's place, what does everyone think of this? (4th one down).

I was wondering about this one:

I've also been thinking of doing the same thing, not sure how much they are here, but if you want I can check prices later this week of those 2 models.
Whoohoo the pimporter is here ;)
Any joy with that Panasonic FZ-30 Nic?
I used one in the Soop until i could be "bothered" with a 12".
DEFINITELY better than just speakers.
Not sure what will fit under the SEAT though ?
I had it in the Hatch still, in one corner.
(it fits under my SIERRA passenger seat... but they're obviously TALL compared to Soop seats ?)
[mine is one of the OLD simpler ones - a 4.5 inch i think no remote and simple shaped box  - the remote WOULD be handy as if the bass is too loud on some tracks it DOES reverb badly - it's a PLASTIC enclosure !]
FatS.

:D I get everywhere!
Asked about the camera but not available in HK yet, remind me again in a couple of weeks or so and I'll check again.
Hmm, time to get the tape measure out then I think! I've got a sub-out on my headunit so with an active sub I'd hopefully get out of wiring up an amp
I would be surprised if that fit under the seat. It might do but you might be limited when moving the seat forward or back, make sure you take that into consideration. :)
Good advice, thanks mate :)
What I was really looking for I can't find.... aaaaaaages ago I saw two really small subs (couldn't have been any bigger than a few inches each) in a really small and thin MDF box, would have been ideal for under the seat (wouldn't have been active mind you).
How large is the stock amp anyway? Only really seen the back of it but it looks like a fairly hefty lump.
If you need pictures of under the passenger seat or need anything measuring let me know, i dont have my passenger seat in at the moment as i am working on a stealth sub install to mount under the seat.

Hi Colin, measurements of the available space under the seat would be very useful, so I can check sizes of sub boxes. :thanks:
I have one of those Alpine SWD 2000's in my Previa. It's a good little unit but there's no way one would fit under one of the seats in a Supra.
I had a 10" sub fitted into a custom made box in the rear wing of the supra (where one of the bits of polysterene and tool kit was previously).
The sub is more than enough for the car and looks really neat and tidy without taking up vast amounts of space in the boot.
It looks like it would fit nicely in the footwell behind the driver's seat. That's where I'd put it anyway. Has *anyone* ever managed to fit a passenger in that seat?!
I can fit 2 asian babes in the back no problem :eyebrows:

I took a couple of pics of the passenger seat area:

and another from a different angle:

There is a bit of room to work with.
Thanks mate, useful pics there!
But where are the two asian babes we were promied? :innocent:
You'll have to be speak to del boy Aka Nic for pics of that :D

Has anyone actually tried / listened to one of these small self powered subs, just curious as the subs are very small and wondered what the bass sounds like etc etc. Surely they will sound crap compared to a 10" sub or larger ??

I'm gonna have a look on the way home but I could have sworn I had three white connectors going into my amp.
(glad to see someone else has more wires coming out of their passenger footwell than me though!) :)
One of those white plugs attaches to the seat.
I removed all the wiring for the amp,as i bypassed that wiring anyway when i fitted a new head unit.
Colin, are you able to post dimensions of the space available please :thanks:
I have included a picture with dimensions, i only used the one half as the other half has a slope on it.
I think with the seat in place you would have about 4 " altogether although it will be tight.

Bass is...put simply...all about moving air...the more the better...some say :D
Now...what do you guys...seriously...think is the best solution between an active unit that uses a 4"(!!) woofer...and installing a nice set of 6,5" coaxial speakers in the original rear speakerboxes?! :D ...for those of you lucky enough to that have them :) (...and for those who dont...its worth checking out :))
We sell these where i work...but i practically refuse to sell them to anyone who wants a bit more bass! :D
What would you recommend I put into the rear speaker enclosures to get some decent into the system?
