I've been offered a 2-year old Dension DMP3 (http://www.dension.com/dmp3_info.htm)and the single-DIN head unit for £120 all-in and I'm seriously considering having it.

Anyone If you go to the Denison website, the head unit is basically the previous generation of the DH100ix (http://www.dension.com/dh100ix_info.htm), without the mini-hard disk built in. The DMP3 is an under-seat hard disk that behaves like a CD changer but with ID3 tag support on the head unit, etc. Best of all, you can retro-fit any standard IDE 3.5" drive into the case up to 250Gb! Drag'n'drop from your PC via USB2.

Anyone know anything about them?

There's a few of these up for sale on eBAY right now. I managed to get one of the sellers to multimeter his lead for me so I think know the pinouts now.

You can run them in a "simple" mode if your head unit has a line-input, but you have to have the actual had disk within reach to change tracks etc. I believe that with some jiggery-buggery you can also get them to emulate a cd changer with certain head units.

All being well I should be buying mine tomorrow. God knows when I'll find the time to fit it to the car :(

Right-ho. I fitted mine today. No time to test it out properly yet but I've got all my MP3s on it. :) More news as it breaks.
