I really love Supra's and am looking to get 1 after my st205 GT4.

I asked on a diff forum what people know about them, one guy said they are not as fast as the book speed, and much slower than peopel think

This is what he wrote:

Right the fact / times from a supra shootout is as follows:

Power 0-60 0-100 1/4mile

600bhp 4.448 9.29 12.599@123mph
325bhp 4.993 12.347 13.530@104mph
550bhp @ 1.4bar 4.601 8.924 12.581@120.88mph
350bhp 5.355 11.686 13.555@108mph
570bhp 5.397 10.409 13.643@116.57mph
320bhp 6.599 15.064 15.088@11.8mph
320bhp 5.916 13.875 14.348@101mph
280bhp 5.546 13.148 14.292@105mph
302bhp 5.716 13.443 14.178@104mph

Does this add up??

Or can u show me some other times so i can tell him to shove these times up his bottom? :ecstatic:

I don't think that the times are too bad. An average std TT Supra will run around 13.7 -13.5 in the 1/4 with terminal speeds around 105-110 mph.

The figures you quote do seem to have a few interesting quirks. Like the 600bhp car only being 1.5 seconds faster than the 305bhp one.

The best way of seeing if Supras are fast or not,is to drive one yourself, rather than taking the opinion of someone who probably hasn't driven one either ;)

What forum did you ask?

OK, this is taking the peesh

even if you have traction control ON, fully auto mode and do not powerbrake, you will get better 0-60 than this, same as 1/4mile.
Just by keeping the damn throttle wide open, and waiting for a couple of seconds to pick up some speed.

Now if these people can't even keep the throttle wide open, should you be looking at their figures?

Sometimes its all about the driver ;)

aren't these the figures from the J Tuner day?
Supras are very quick, just not as quick on a 1/4mile as something with 4wd and even a little less power. When they're on the move, they'll beat most other cars on the road

Looks like N/A figures, maybe?

My bone stock jspec TT Auto managed 5.8 from 0-60 and 13.78 for the 1/4 but that was on a warm day so I think there is a little more in it.

IMO performance is about how quick a car feels on the road, you can't judge how much fun you're going to have by looking at lists and lists of stats.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that a car will be slower in real life because someone tells you their car will do 0-100 0.2 seconds faster, blah blah blah......

These are times from out timeslip database.(see attached)

I dont really think the supra is about standing start acceleration 60 mph +is what the supra is designed for, it will keep up and in some cases embarrass much more exotic machinery.
Take quoted perfomance and power figures of any car with a large pinch of salt!!

In terms of top speed the supra is faster than the book speed, not slower, it just needs the electronic restrictor removed!

In what sense are they slow?
The supra's strength is in mid range and high speed performance, if you only want to do standing starts then there are other choices of course...

However on the road, standing starts often account for nowt, unless you like doing traffic light gran prix's - but thats often reserved for the nova's of the world.

In a very real sense, the supra is very fast when it counts. I used to have a delta integrale which could do a devistating 0-60 but it's still no where near as quick as the supe in real situations, even though it's 0-60 on paper looks dead impressive. Comes down a lot to the driver also, especially as the times get lower!

IIRC someone on this forum managed a sub 5 sec 0-60 on his stock manual TT, I don't call this slow.

Remember, the supra is immensly tunable, so if it's not quick enough as it is, it sure can be made to be as quick as you want to go! :woot:

How about 0 to 180+ in 1.25miles? That slow enough? :D

Launching a 1500kg turbo RWD car with street tyres and stiff suspension and a manual gearbox is extremely difficult - it's easy to bog or smoke the tyres. Of course, your mate, being the expert he is, knows all this already :) Check out the 0-100mph figures. They knock spots off a lot of cars - sub 10 seconds to the ton is pretty heady stuff...

What the times also don't show is any problems that the car may be having on the day! We found out afterwards both mine and Sheenas were running with knackered O2 sensors causing overfuelling and hence reducing the power considerably.

Using my Apexi RSM I have timed a 4.92 0-60 since then and the recorded result has been seen by people on here.

LOL, 4.4 sec 0-60 with wheelspin in first and second, and I quoted my car as 500bhp BTW, that is magazines for you ;), oh and we found its had a bad boost leak for the past 5 Months....

for i would say a BPU supe and i'me only talking an exhaust and full decat (about 800, alot less if bits bought second hand) would be unbeatable i know thats a bold statement but if you bought a standard j-spec and the above mentioned mods for 10k tell me another car that would reliably (this is the key word here) keep up with a supe, at 1.2 bar boost the spool up is instant (no lag) the 0-60 is good, the midrange is awesome and the only thing that limits your top end is your nerve (i've seen 170 on a private road before mine went) your best bet is to have a test drive mate as we're all a bit biased round here :p

I managed a 12.87 quarter mile a couple of years ago in a J-Spec Twin Turbo with nothing other than a full decat and fuel cut defender to allow it to boost over 1bar.

I don't really call that slow either!
