View Full Version : Check this out, it looks awesome.
I've managed to get some money back from the crook that sold me a pants stereo on ebay and I've found this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5800544816&sspagename=ADM
Does anyone know if I were to buy this and pop it in the car if it would work? Would I need a uk disk? Would it work then?
Confused with this region sat nav thing.
Cheers,
Paulie.
Thats the same as a Pioneer AVIC-X1 but in a double din format.
Obviously its US spec, so you will loose the RDS function on the radio. The unit will be NTSC so wont play PAL dvd's, unless its switchable (doesnt say on the ad). Not sure if the unit is region locked either, it may only play US dvd's if it is, if its region free which i suspect it is this wont be a problem.

the Avic D1 is, i think replaced by the Avic X1r
i was going to go for an X1R, but the alpine IVA 310 is better - has a larger remap corridor for the TMC that navigates you around traffic (so im told)
I guess then that I could use the Pioneer AVIC-X1 UK nav dvd in it. Might be a good buy, works out at around £500 (ish).
I might just get one.

The UK nav dvd is about £200! I don't think anyones been able to copy it.
The US-spec AVIC headunits...wont be able to use any european-map....we've tried this...
It's nearer £600 and it says that it is US sale only.
If you want the new Pioneer AVIC X-1, I'm get these here quite a bit cheaper than there, including airmail to UK it would work out at £955. This is exactly the same as the UK model, so bandwidth and DVD are all same etc.
There are other cheaper models available here too if that is too pricey.
According to Pioneer...the european version of this unit is being launched spring 2006.
I've just bought a second hand Sony double din, the one that was in the Celica's a few years ago. Seems to be ok. Think I'll keep it until Spring 2006 when I'll pick up one of the Pioneer Euro models. Sounds like a plan!
