View Full Version : Fitting power for iPod adapter
Got hold of a pioneer CD-IB100 to connect up to my headunit, so I can control my iPod from the stereo
Although I've done quite a few stereo installations before, I've always used the universal connectors with the power connectors built into them, but this adapter has just got two small bare wires for +/-.
Anyone got any tips for wiring this up properly? I don't want to fry the car!
Just did this recently. Ground the negative wire against the radio subframe or any other metal component attached to the chassis in there. The positive needs to be connected to a power source which is on even when the keys are out. I found, by use of a voltmeter, a pin on the radio connector which was being fed 12V all the time and simply paralleled the ipod adapter to this. You can either strip a section then wrap around and seal; or poke the bare wire up into the back of the connector and secure. I chose the latter and has been working very well for some time! Alternative sources would be things like the interior lights but couldn't find anywhere to tap 'em. Also, found the adapter mounted quite nicely on top of the ABS computer and ipod connecter runs painlessly into bottom glove compartment. Post back if you need any more assistance.
Thanks mate :D
Great first post too! :respekt:
Would be better to solder the join rather than wrap it around and seal it.
I did this yesterday in about 30 mins, was an absolute P.O.P to do if you've taken the dash apart before
Would definately recommend this bit of kit to anyone with an iPod and Pioneer stereo, I've now got my whole music collection accessable by the head unit :)
The only problem I've encountered is that it's quite slow to make your way down the list of artists / albums etc due to only having controls for up / down / left / right and no jog wheel like on the iPod. So if you're considering it tidy out your iPod to only include the stuff you actually want to listen to (I had several hundred artists on mine due to a dozen or so old Now! albums!)

Lucky for me I got the Alpine one, 2 leads, one to the head unit and to the I-Pod, all the power comes through the AI-Net lead, took me 5 mins to install, and with the Alpine unit to browse tracks, play lists, artists and albums on the Head Unit, so makes finding what you want a breeze..!!
just waiting for my iPod to arrive from www.pcworld.co.uk where they were doing the new 60Gb iPod photo for £279 incl free delivery
then looking to get the equivalent cable for my Kenwood HU which apparently charges too, although i'm hoping it doesn't require the same wiring as you guys have had to do & just works through the cable like the changer does :)
No probs. It is a good piece of kit but I totally agree with you on browsing the music. Seems to favour playlists really; if only you could browse using the rotary function...
