Turbo on supra NA 5 spd

Hi guys,

This question has been asked many times, but i have a different question this time.

I don;t want to place a huge turbo on a supra NA but a normal one.

Why? i'm want to use a na for a daily ride, a turbo is always very nice but budget is limited. So, i want to buy a na first and place a small turbo later on it.

My questions are;

Is it wise to place a small turbo later on it?

Is it beter to change some internals? for example forged steelrod, is it strong enough to do it then?

Is the 5 spd transmission strong enough?

Thanks in advance

(i don;'t have a supra NA yet, hopefully soon) :looney:

This is what my plan looks like if it is possible to do a small turbo:

Buy supra

Buy blitz nur spec, Teins edfc and AEM

and then the turbo

Your cheapest/easiest option would be to buy an NA now, then once you have saved enough money, sell the NA and buy a TT. You are looking at big money to properly install a single turbo kit on an NA.

If you go to Votex website (see traders section) they do a specific NA - turbo kit.

If you haven't got the NA yet then get the TT (I own an NA so I'm not biased). I cannot see the point in buying a car that doesn't really meet your needs straight off.

That said if you go for it great, but unless you do the work yourself its not going to be cheap and the money you saved on the car initially would be then spent on getting your car to the point where it can think about competing with a TT.

Thanks for reply's! :)

I discussed this point with my mother as well and the car will be on my mothers name.

This will save a lot of insurance, besides of that, i'm gonna buy a small car as well for the miles, and i can do some rubish parking with it Haha.

Roadtax is for a TT around 800 euro's per year for a NA around 650 euro's

The reason why i want a NA first is that my budget is limited, i can afford to buy a good NA and directly the Blitz nur spec exhouast and teins springs with EDFC.

So i can enjoy the car, learn the car and got the looks hehe.

I will take a look at the Votex website to see what it costs to turbo a NA.

Don`t agree with these replies. A good low mileage N/A can be bought now for around 4.5 - 5K, now add on the price of a single turbo kit, say from here http://www.inno-moto.com/suprascis.htm or boostlogic.com and you`ll have a nice little motor that`ll eat std. TT`s all day! Clutch upgrade and exhaust should still see you the right side of 9 - 10K. The 5spd w58 will hold up to 450bhp ok.

AND you`ll be working with brand new parts, not something that`s been in there since 1994!

Thanks a lot! that is exactly what i need.

:thanks:

It sounds silly but i don;t want to have 450HP, 360 is enough for me :)

Btw i can;t see http://supraforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=16

can;t register as well, what on that page? :)

Yes, but what's an NA-T going to cost you? about 1200 euros? More?

650 euro;s :) because you only have to re-registrate when the car gets more than 50% HP extra or changing from 4 to 6 cilinders (for example)

650 is all in :looney:

I understand you're reasoning behind insurance & road tax etc etc. But like Faye says, if you've already decided ... even before you've bought the car .. that the NA is not going to be fast enough ... then what's the point in getting one ?

£5k for the car & £5k for the turbo conversion. Hmmmm .. I find that doubtful! Your getting a standalone ECU .. an AEM .. that's going to take quite abit of expertise & money to get that mapped & dyno-ed properly. Also - you're injectors will need upgrading. Finding an AEM tuner might be tricky & will definately be costly. I know Dimitri .. on this BBS is an AEM tuner.

I spent £4k on TT to T61 conversion! And I haven't even finished yet.

Imo .. if you've made your mind for performance .. then buy a TT.

I picked up dimitri 3 weeks ago from the airport to let him adjust 3 AEM's in Supra;s @ a workshop wich is specialised in Supras

Arnout from supras.nl is an AEM official tuner as well, who;s living in the netherlands.

A NA is fast enough but i want a small turbo for the extra speed and sound :)

See it as a NA with some extras not as a wannabe TT.

Arch, good on you for wanting to go the NA-T route.

Too be honest it really pisses me off....go buy a TT blah blah blah. FFS if he wanted a TT he'd get one, Perhaps someone wants something different, if they cant afford it all at moment buy an NA and build up your bits to make a NA-T.

I will prob go NA-T as i like my car i trust it, know its reliable and wont wana change it.

To get big Power you dont need a TT, its easily possible to get 500BHP from an NA-T sure it not been done much over here but what the hell! sure costs more, but hey good luck to you

And to be honest if he is only wanting small turbo and less power he wont even need to upgrade transmission and gearbox etc... may need to do injectors if over 330BHP as injectors are 370cc

:) it's just that i can;t afford a TT at the moment, the gas, maintaince and insurance.

I'm doing a NA because i can built it up trough the years, its not a 6 months plan.

The insurance won;t raise if i do something with te car.

You just pay for a NA and are allowed to increase the HP with a max of 50% and modify everything before you pay more insurance.

the insureance will cost me around 1600 euro a year and 650 euro roadtax and 1.40 euro a liter of gas :drown:

Clarkey Sparkey, i appreciate all comments!! it;s good to hear that my plan isn;t good in someones point of view. "bad" comments are good!

At the moment i can afford an NA, teins edfc + controller and a Blitz nur spec muffler.

+ import costs (2000 euro's) and insurance for this type of car. The turbo will come (hope so) next year when i'm done with my new house

Get Dimitri to talk to me about a kit for you if you want.
