Span out!

How greasy were the roads on Saturday? First proper rain in weeks, so I knew they'd be a bit slippery, anyway just put some brand new decent rubber on the fronts, since my g/f had been complaining the car had been sliding around on it's cheap tyres, so thought I'd test them in the rain.

Turning right on a roundabout the fronts plant solidly but the backend twitches a bit (that's odd), next roundabout by an industrial estate, going straight over but the road kinks slightly so it's like a little chicane, only going around 25mph and the backend just goes! :help: Immediately steered into it, but with the short wheelbase and lack of power steering it makes no difference, broadside skid up a (thankfully 45 degree) kerb on the central reservation and end up facing back the way I came. Luckily no-one around to witness it, bar our 3 year old in the back who was totally unrattled, "what are you doing daddy?" Oh and in case you hadn't guessed, this wasn't in the Supe, but in my g/f's 1.2 FWD Clio!

I thought there must have been some diesel on the road, but driving back home even at 15mph the back was trying to slide out on 2 other roundabouts! Needless to say, we've put some Goodyears on the back too now.

I swear Swindon must have some of the slippiest roundabouts in the UK - I've had the Supes rear slide right out at 10mph with my foot not even touching the accelerator before.

[Oh and I passed a Focus that had had a good stab at demolishing a traffic light with his rear-end, coming off a roundabout on the way home, looked like the same thing had happened to him; FWD again]

:looney:

those clio's are notorious for having a 'twitch' back end especially in the wet. I raced a clio round a wet track two years ago and any amount of braking into a corner would result in the rear end stepping out.

With all the engine weight on the front and as you say with a short wheel base it makes the rear end very lively.

Quite a nice handling car otherwise it has to be said (for FWD that is). :)
