Tyre Sizes - Safe to increase width on 5.5"?

My second car has 5.5" wide 14" steel wheels, I've toyed with the idea of sticking some alloys on but this would then mean it would need lowering and so on so I'm just treating it to new tyres....

At the present time it has 165/70/14 as standard but I was thinking of moving to a 185/60 or a 195/60 to try and grab a tiny bit of extra grip - they all cost about the same so that isn't an issue, just wondered if anyone can see a problem with these widths on a 5.5" wheel?

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html seems to suggest the sizes won't be greatly different.
