View Full Version : bypassing the amp
can anyone give me a short detailed explanation of how to bypass the standerd amp in the suup............in idiot terms pls!! (i know absolutley fook all!, lol!) :)
Hi,
There is an aftermarket wiring harness made by autoleads 'PC2-17-4'. Halfrauds sell this and sometimes under their own brand. This lead is used to connect most aftermarket head units, using the ISO connection. By using this lead it bypasses the stock amp, results in better sound.
If you do have a stock sub (GZ model?) you will lose that
It was about £10-15 pounds when I bought it.

Just get a head unit with RCA Pre-Outs on it and the wiring harness mentioned above and away you go. Wayne let me know what you are planning and I can give you a hand, you seen my install and all by my own fair hands..!

More info needed - so with this adaptor doobry what do we do?
I'm thinking that everything must go through the amp, so how do the speakers connect to the head unit if I simply take the amp out? Or is it only the sub barker that's connected to the amp?

Id by-pass the factory amp (not that the Uk's have them anyway) and drive all speakers from aftermarket amps.
I have 3 RCA pre-outs on my head unit, Subs Out goes to a 800w Audiobahn Amp which drives the 2 8" subs, and then the front and rear pre-outs go to an Alpine 4 channel which in turn drives the Alpine components in the rear and Focal comps in the front. The only speakers still being driven by the head unit direct are the dash tweeters. This route you would by-pass the factory amps completely, the ISO connection block people are talking about can be bought in Halfords for about £15, they come for each make of Head unit, I got the Alpine - Toyota one and its simply works by one end plugs directly into the Toyota head unit wiring loom and the other end plus straight into the Alpine loom supplied with the head unit, took me 10 mins to fit my new head unit..!!

Have done a quick wiring diagram of how my system is set up (note power feeds for amps and cap ect or not included, would get way to complex).!!

U got all the kit..??? Getting the Amp power cable to the battery can be a real bitch..!! Took me and a mate nearly 2 hours just to do that bit..!
But let me what you have or you are after and sure I can find some time to pop down..! :)
1)the plugg on my car does not fitt the toyota too kenwood lead from halfords??????????? looks klike the last owner has done a diy job on his wiring to the plugg.
2) is it a case of of unplugging the speaker wires from the amp and connecting them to the plugg to go into the bacl og the headunit?

Matt H fitted my head unit last year so it's already wired in, but now I've removed the stock amp. If I reconnect the head unit will the four speakers work and I'll just lose the subwoofer or do I need to do something with the connectors that went into the stock amp?

Do you mean you want to now put the stock head unit back, having removed stock amp? I believe stock amp powers all the channels

No, I have Pioneer head unit that Matt H put in but everything else is standard.
The head unit is out of the car at the moment, so when I bung it back in and reconnect it what will happen? The stock amp is out of the car, so will I just get the four speakers and the sub in the boot won't work? Do I need to do anything with the stock amp connectors to get the four speakers working?
Right, If the autoleads harness has been used, which probably has, then you will be ok! The Autoleads harness mentioned on this thread Bypasses the stock amp so it does not matter now that you don't have the stock amp.
Have a look into the head unit slot or pull out the wiring a little - you may be able to see the harness?

ive done this there is 2 wires on one side of the amp and the 2 wires on the other side of the amp and you need to get some crimps and join the 2 wires together when i removed my amp my whole stereo stopped working i will find out which colour wires they are and let you know. your quite lucky as i need to take out my passenger seat today
