Back to the scoop! lol As he said he was running higher than standard boost and if I remember from a previous post the dispute was to why US spec and j spec dont have them and the post not really getting anywhere. I'm sure some more dialogue will be posted though!

John, everytime you post I think its great - ruffles some feathers and gets some good techy background from you and others. Cheers

Interesting John and confirms what was being said in the previous posts/arguments about why the scoop is there.

Makes me wish i had one now :(

I'm going to say it again, Toyota R&D will have tested the J spec soop within its standard limits and I'm sure the scoop does not make any difference on standard cars. Obviously if you start modding like increasing boost then you are going to start to put things out of their thresholds, so in order to get a car to gain more power you get better intercoolers, injectors. IMO If Toyota thought that the scoop was going to be necessary they would have put it on and not risked the hassle of recalls due to blown no 2 turbos.

Theres a difference between standard and modified - the latter needs supporting components to keep reliability. :taped:

Just out of curiosity, how many j spec owners who have increased boost pressure have blown tubbie 2 and its down to this overheating factor?

Very informative link there.

That's what I thought. That guy is an old-timer in supra tuning, became a dealer for Techtom (who at the time were making the datalogger I'm after, but no more, grrrrr :swear: )

I hadn't seen a printout of a stock ignition map before (ok it's only 2-D, but better than nothing, eh?) 23degrees it maxes out at the top. At least now I have an idea of the stock 'leeway'.

He also had the stock air-temp correction map. I'll stick them on my site once I make an ECU page.
