Pete
Last night I managed to leave a door ajar on my NA and have drained the battery. (Stooopid) Now when I try to charge the battery the charger seems to flick on/off in 10 or so second cycles. The alarm was doing it's best to sound off until I disconnected it and hence pulling the little power that was going back into the system. It's an MP5 Toad alarm. I've checked the manual but it doesn't mention what happens in the event of total power failure. I have pin numbers etc and so can input my key fobs if I need to. My main concern is why it's not charging properly. And ideas?
scooby_doo_do
I'd of thought it should be fine once the powers back on... I've had my car battery off for about 4 weeks before now, and the alamrs worked fine... But i'm sure someone like Matt H will be able to tell you for sure... If i'm wrong ignore all i've said :-)
Pete
The alarms not so much as a worry, but the charging is.. It'll take an age to charge as it is doing, it's almost like it's tripping out. Can't see why it would though..unless the alarm is effecting it.
scooby_doo_do
I take it when yur charging it, its completly disconnected from everything? I always disconect my battery fully when charging it up as the alarm throws a wobbler as it thinks someones trying to steal the car... Try that.... Pete
Just been back out to the car - it's charging properly now.. I'll leave it a bit then tackle the alarm.
terribleturner
Pete, is it the original Jap Battery?? If so my understanding is once they get drained they are not always able to charge up fully again. Am sure i read a couple of threads on here somewhere and my mate had the same trouble a year or 2 ago.
Pete
It's not the original Jap battery. Charging ok now and I've reconnected the alarm and it's behaving itself again. All ok apart from a slight ringing in the ears! Thanks guys.
Chris Wilson
The so called "intelligent" battery chargers need to see a finite amount of charge in the battery before they will start sending usable current into it. If it's virtually totally flat they get confused. Jump it from another car to get a few minutes initail charge into it, then use the "intelligent" charger. As with people, "intelligence" is relative
Pete
Cheers Chris - that explains the way it kept dropping out. After 15mins or so of that it became stable and charged as normal. It's started up and all ok now I really am going to have to get around to selling it.
