Sean1933
I pulled up in tesco last night to hear my car making a horrible clonking noise, a bit like the clutch plates chattering, but really load, and on idle. When i put the clutch down oit goes away, so it must be the clutch or gearbox...can anyone shed any light on what might exactly be wrong, because the bloke i bought it off put a brand new HKS twin plate clutch in it a few weeks previous, so it cant be that, can it? PLEASE HELP!!!
Nic
I pulled up in tesco last night to hear my car making a horrible clonking noise, a bit like the clutch plates chattering, but really load, and on idle. PLEASE HELP!!! Does it also have a lightened flywheel fitted? This is common noise assosiated with most aftermarket clutch/flywheel kits. It will normally get louder the hotter it gets. I have a TRD twin plate/lightened flywheel and get 'slight' rattle at tickover. It is normal, unless it is really loud, in this case the clutch *may* not have been fitted properly or thrust bearing not replaced. Raising tickover slightly will reduce the chattering at tickover. Sean1933
I am not sure if it has a lightened glywheel, but it has only just started making this noise last night. What would it mean if the thrust bearing was not replaced?
Sean1933
The trader i bought it off said if i took it to him he will look at it, he s a mechanic aswell, he fitted the clutch. Thing is this is a 40min drive away, would it be okay to drive it there?

Robert
well unless he can drive out to you then i guess you will have to go to him, unless you pay for a local garage to have a look
cashpoint
When it started had you been driving hard? My lightweight flywheel is fine most of the time when it's been pushed it's nosiy. If it is the fly then you shold be fine is you take it easy.
