Hi All,

Has anyone had any dealings with RGS Motorsports in Wellingborough ???

Please could you post your comments on any work you have had done by this company.

My reason is that my car went in for mapping and was working fine but a day later they ring and tell me that the new turbo ( less than 100 miles on it ) has blowen up, so I supplied a new turbo and three days later I get my car back and a bill for £976.

Ok I pick up the car and drive back to London park her in the garage and there she sits for a week, this morning due to a problem with my other car I went to use the Supra to go to work, I had just pulled out onto the main road and gave it a bit of a blast about 100 yards when BANG noise like metal scraping along the floor so I pull over very quickly look underneath and the downpipe is on the floor, so I open the bonnet and hey presto the down pipe that they fitted with a weld had parted company from the back of the turbo now as if that was not bad enough where it had dropped it had let the full blast of the exhaust from the turbo hit the back of the firewall and melt the clutch master cylinder and destory some pipes.

After speaking to them later today they said that it was not thier fault and that a company on the same estate had done the welding and although they could not help me they would do my partners car for a lower price ( like I really am going to let Samsupra37 take her car there) maybe this is a one of but I am now looking at another bill of around £600 to put things right.

Ok maybe this is a one off and I will just have to swallow and get on with it but that is why I look to you guys for your comments as if there are a few of you who have ended up in the same boat I:E bad service then I will take legal action to recover my costs.

Thanks.

Ok this is not a knock at all just a litlle food for thought . "cold welding" steel to cast is a fine art and one that pays very highly BUT it needs to be done corectly .I'm sure a few of us have had some cast welding on some old escorts ect in the past only to find out a year later it has cracked again . It does and can work ( stock Toyota manifolds have the link tube done this way) but im sure you can see my angle here when i say longevity...you would be far better of and safer swaping the hotside snail for a cast Vband one or even see if the is enough room for a 6 bolt flange and drill and tap it as in the long run it will save the £££ and offer a bit more protection over it hapening again. Just think if you are abroad and it happens V bands and bolts are easier to find than a specialist welder.

I would say that if they took the job on and sent it of to be welded then they need to take it up with them as the job was given to them ..so yes they should sort it out ...but its a hard one as ive covered above ....it works but for how long?

As I understand it, legally speaking, your contract for the work was with RGS, if they chose to subcontract the welding work to another party, that's none of your business, RGS are still liable for the quality of the work, it's up to them to take it up with the welders. This all sounds very shoddy, I'm sure trading standards will be interested, and a lawyer would tear them apart.

Good luck

i`m local and used them years ago and would never go back and i`ve heard a horror story with a cossie, but then i`ve heard bad things of other places around here ,i would involve trading standards as they are at fault as it`s not your problem that they sub work out.

if you pay british gas to fit central heating it`s them you chase not the plumber they sub it out to when it goes wrong.
