i hear that the SSQV HKS valve is good also but is it as good as the Blitz supersound?
Define 'Good'.

Good for what? Neither one will improve your car's performance. Vent to atmosphere BOVs are sad Chavtastic things that are only 'good' for getting you more attention from teenage boys. If you're looking for more 'action' from the local teenage boys go ahead but it will not improve the performance of your car.

Is that why the Buggati Veyron has them too? :)

Too harsh ;)

Beats me. Is there a sound engineering reason for fitting VTA dump valves that I'm not aware of?

In what way will it improve the performance/handling/looks/anything of a MkIV Supra running the stock turbo setup?

Aren't aftermarket VTA dump valves purely attention seeking devices? I reckon if someone desires more attention than a Supra already gets they might have some sort of psychological disorder. You may as well save your money and just blow the horn every time you change gear. It would have the same effect, everyone would look as you drive through the precinct of your estate and the adults would still be thinking "what a tosser"

I know I'm a miserable old fart but when I read these guys considering spending several hundred pounds on a BOV for their Supra that still has j-spec brakes it makes me cringe. (I'm not necessarily talking about "supraman.chris" here. I don't know what brakes he has - but I know what my money would be on :sly: )

I was under the impression (maybe badly advised) that the stock BOV was not up to the job when running at 1.2 bar, hence the need for an aftermarket one.

There's no need for one at all, except to make the car more civilised sounding, assuming it's a stock type recirculating one. No turbo performance engine i have built in the last 15 years has had one. In my experience the stock ones are far more reliable than ANY aftermarket one, should you choose to run one at all.

Thanks for clarifying Chris

I have to admit that when I first had my Supra I loved the BOV sound, but in the last year it has grown to be very annoying (maybe I'm just getting old!)

Supraman.chris, want to do a part-ex on a nearly new HKS SSQV ;) :p

Rally cars, older generation Le Mans cars use them. Many turbo performance racing cars have them, go check out the vid of that quad turbo supercharged street racing Lancia thing on Supraforums, listen to it constantly.

Obviously theres no need for some BOV on a standard Supra : a, the noise wouldnt sell it, and b it doesnt need it.

BTW Jake, you're not getting old, I feel the same when I hear the Escorts etc that race around the town purely to make the noise.. thats not the reason why I bought mine!

I thought the idea of vent to atmosphere was so that it helped protect the turbo against surge? :who:

Some good info here....

Apparently they don't just make a noise!

I've got one on mine which was there when I bought it. I'm going to rip it off tomorrow & put a stock one on to prevent the attention from teenage boys! :limp:

Must admit, it does get annoying sometimes sounding like a bus! Do buses have them? Why?....

BOVs have a use.

Use goggle and go read up on your tech ;)

Miss the point much, Ian?

We all know the purpose of a BOV. Nobody said they're only for making a whooshing noise. But, the reason ricers buy aftermarket VTA BOVs is not because they work better than the stock recirculating one, it's because they go "WHOOSH"

to be on topic again, most people find the HKS one less prone to problems than the Blitz one, so if you want to get a BOV, then the HKS SQV seem to come out on top. If you've got a UK car, turbo stall can be an issue if they're not recircing, but i haven't seen anyone with a UK with a HKS BOV have any probs....

Chris, my stock one wouldnt hold 1.2 bar once I went single.

I now have a bailey dump valve, less than half the price of the jap ones, does the job fine and they do a recirc version.
