Hi guys, i`m half way through doing a full service on the Supra. I`ve been trying to catalogue how i`ve been doing it and taking photos to make up a document on how to tackle the service jobs. I`ve nearly completed fitting braided hoses, new discs and pads. I was planning on burning it to a disc and sending it to a more technically minded person to edit and then maybe get it put in the technical section or something on here. Just as guide for people who feel they`d like to undertake these smaller jobs themselves.
I`m hoping to cover:

Brake hose, disc and pad renewal
Oil change
Coolant change
Gearbox oil change
Diff oil change
Clutch fluid change

The dilemma is that i`m trying to get it finished for JAE so i can have it up for sale but it is slowing me down considerably taking photos of these items as i go along. Would this information be of use to anyone or am i wasting my time?

very good idea! something i've wanted to do when I've done things like oil change and what not. I haven't managed it though, although I did do the little Thor-dials one the other day

if you can and don't mind.. then it would be very valuable to people.

I would have found something like that very useful when I first did those sort of jobs. There is often a certain knack with these things and certainly a list of stuff should avoid doing :D

Great idea, I'm suprised nobody has thought of that sooner!

Do you mean like a Haynes manual?

Do you mean like a Haynes manual? God, I hope not!

"...then, using a 22mm socket, undo the crank pulley bolt and just slide the the pulley forwards and off the crankshaft" :D

A kind of manual, but only as a guide as i can`t profess to be an expert, but sometimes it just takes a few pics and a quick explanation to give the confidence to take the extra step. I did the same thing on how to do a cambelt change for the GTti Club and it was very well received.
Seeing as there is a few then i shall carry on. The car will be finished for the weekend and i`ll get it all wrote up in the next few weeks.

It sounds like a really excellent idea! :respekt:

Any chance someone could do something similar along the lines of "an idiot's guide to fitting a window regulator and motor" ? I bought a replacement for mine 3 weeks ago, and haven't got a clue where to start (other than it looks like you need at least 3 arms/hands) :help: :(

I was all excited until that moment :( I was gonna volunteer to host the photos and write-ups in the tech articles section on here, with full credit to you of course. If you are selling the results then I guess we can't.

Ah yes, hadn't picked up on that little point. Surely they can be made to members of this forum, via the members only section, along with the other aritcles people have written for the benefit of everyone else....please scarface?

Guys, I think he means he's selling the Supra, not the guide!

I wasn't sure, but hoped that was the case. :)

Doesn't matter, it's all principles. I bet he lives in a caravan and his bed is made from tarmac.

or something...I need to get on with some work :innocent: :littled:

Oh, if he meant he's trying to get the car finished so it's up for sale then please can we have the write-ups for the tech section? :D

would it be wise to also stick fuel filter change & plugs in there to make it a complete service guide? there's the bits on mkiv.com that provide a lot of stuff already

very good idea :D ... i'm photoing/writting up a basic guide to diy BPU .... boost gauge install/decat/fuel pump/fpr/intake etc etc.... again, will be posted when ready... cant thank people enough for the useful info on the site, hence good to give something to people on the first step of the ladder ;)

 Oops sorry. Yes the cars for sale and any information is obviously free :) I was going to have a word with Ian C about sending the info to you anyway as that seems a logical step.
I also have to change the spark plugs so that will be in as well. Wish someone had already done a guide as it took a little while last night to work out how to release the rear shoes to replace the rear discs. Easy when you know how to access the tension wheel though :nyah:
It`ll be a few weeks before i can get it written up. When its done feel free to make suggested changes to better it or tell me i`ve got things wrong, it`s there to be perfected. Thanks everyone.

Groovy, apologies for the misunderstanding :)

PM me when you've got stuff to send and I'll chuck you an email addy. Fantastic stuff :)

I never think to photo and write up anything unless it's bonkers mad like a single turbo conversion

Don`t thank me till you`ve seen it. What i may think to be useful may be crap in other peoples eyes. Anyway must get on, got the brakes to finish and spark plugs to fit tonight, oh, and photograph it all :D
