Phoenix/gearbox

I've waited a while to post this so that I can give an honest view and see how things turned out.

A few months back I had Mark and Paul at Phoenix in Watford do a major service/check over and all was well other than the rear gearbox seal which needed changing as it leaks, something that I've been aware of for some time.

They attempted to remove the flange on the output shaft but it was on solid!

So, the seal was left until they could source a puller to do the job. This proved a pain in the arse and took a month or so for them to find a puller to do the job, great I thought and booked it back in to finally get it sorted.

I took the car over and hung around while they did it, the puller worked fine and I have to say that Mark performed the work in such a professional/clinical way that even I couldn't fault anything

I drove it off, new V160 oil in and the gear changes are smoother than ever, well worth the wait.

Within a couple of days I noticed that the oil is still leaking! I phone Phoenix and Mark was so helpfull and insisted I take it back so he can take a look to see where the problem lay.

Well, today I've been back and Mark has spent best part of this morning putting another new seal in, also he added sealant to the spline on this flange as it appears that the oil may have got through at this point, all at no cost to me and still as ever, polite and friendly.

Hopefully we have it all sorted out but I thought that it was worth commenting on the service these guys give when things go wrong. I don't blame them or their workmanship in any way for the continued leak and I was shocked that it still leaked having seen the way Mark worked on it.

What I will say is that they treat your car as well as or better than you would and stick with it if there is a problem not shying away if it means effort or hassle to do so.

This really is the way we would like all people that work on our cars to be but you only find what they are really like when it doesn't go to plan and all I can say is a big thanks to Phoenix for being so genuine and bending over backwards over this one and they deserve continued future success!

edit: forgot to add that their singing to the radio is shite but they do a nice cuppa

You know my feelings, Mark is absolutely first rate. And you really couldnt hope for a more genuine or reliable guy.

I heard that you try to sing too, thank f*ck you didn't turn up or it would have been like a pop idol audition, Paul started it off with Mark slating him for it and then out of the blue Mark starts :swear:

Nice car BTW Terry, even without the spoiler at the moment......WTF is going on under that bonnet? Don't worry, can't give any secrets away cause I don't pretend to understand half of it, looked nice though.

Yeah Ian, was that yours with the louvred bonnet? Nice motor mate, gearbox work or something they said?

Mark really should come on here as he knows many of us anyway, Terry have a word with him and sort it.

You and Mark doing your clutch in the morning? (He thinks there's some pisstake ammo there so prepare yourself!)

I have far to much ammo on him for him to even think of starting

as for the singing, just pray you dont stumble across us when we are pissed one night. Mark thinks he is the white snoop dog, and Paul is the new Harry Secombe ;)

Other than a sodding great single with some huge pipework leading to it!

What's the gauge/valve right rear for?

Mark was saying you took him out in it and it bloody shifts, then again it would compared to their 'passion wagon' escort van.

I know, he said that despite all the exotics that he has ever driven he couldn't believe the acceleration on yours. He said when it took off his stomach was in the back seat!

You gonna replace the spoiler or have it filled and leave it off?

Yeah took it off to see if it effects the top speed at all. Busy experimenting TBH, wing mirrors next ;)

They do look "wrong" without one though, so it will reappear soon.
